Jason Pero had been sick for a few days, his grandparents said. He went to school on Wednesday morning but came home feeling nauseous. Jason got a 7-Up, laid on the couch and started watching TV. Jason's uncle, who was home at the time, doesn't know why the teen left the house or why he was carrying the butcher knife. Alan Pero thought maybe Jason had gone outside to throw up.
"This is a tragedy that should not have happened," Bad River Band Chairman Robert Blanchard said, according to KARE 11. "There's other ways to do things than to pull out a gun and shoot him."...

You never think it's going to hit so close to home especially my 13-year-old son," said Holly Gauthier, Jason's mom.
Jason was the oldest of her three children and the only one she saw before she went blind.
