A Botetourt County man has died from the H1-N1 strain of influenza, otherwise known as the swine flu. Russell West was 27 years old and according to his wife, he was healthy and strong.
"He loved to fish. He loved going hiking," Michelle West said. "He hadn't ever been to the doctor for eight years except for poison ivy once. He was just very very active."
Russell West first noticed something wasn't right a couple of days before Christmas. He had a headache and eventually developed a fever and chills. "At one point he was on our floor rolling around and coughing and could not stop coughing," Michelle West said.
