    The Travis County flu death toll has risen to 34, according to county officials.

    Two more people in Travis County have died from the flu, bringing the total number of county deaths so far this season to 34, health officials said.

    This year?s flu season has been particularly deadly, with the most deaths reported in Travis County in more than 10 years, Austin Public Health spokeswoman Carole Barasch said. So far this season, no children have died from the flu, and the majority of deaths have been people 80 and older, she said.

    Six additional flu deaths were reported Wednesday in Dallas County, raising the county's toll to 60 this season.

    As of Feb. 7, there have been 105 reported flu-related deaths this season across North Texas, including 60 in Dallas County, 23 in Tarrant County, 14 in Collin County, seven in Denton County and one in Parker County.

    55th, 56th, 57th, 58th, 59th, and 60th cases
    DALLAS (Feb. 7, 2018) ? Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) is reporting six additional flu-related deaths in Dallas County totaling 60 flu-related deaths for the 2017-2018 season. The patients range in age from 36 to 86 and were residents of DeSoto, Dallas, Richardson and Garland. All patients had high risk health conditions and died after complications from the seasonal flu. For medical confidentiality and personal privacy reasons, DCHHS does not provide additional identifying information.

    Fort Worth woman dies after contracting flu twice

    A Fort Worth mom who was seemingly healthy died after getting the flu and secondary infections twice.

    The family of 58-year old Angie Barwise says they took her illnesses seriously. They took her to a doctor and hospital for treatment, got Tamiflu and antibiotics, but she just became weaker and weaker.

    The best way to protect yourself from the flu is with a flu vaccination. The vaccine this year protects against the most common strains of the virus, including H1N1, which caused a pandemic in 2009.

    Two additional flu deaths were reported Wednesday in Denton County, raising the county's toll to seven this season.

    As of Feb. 7, there have been 99 reported flu-related deaths this season across North Texas, including 54 in Dallas County, 23 in Tarrant County, 14 in Collin County, seven in Denton County and one in Parker County.

    HAYS COUNTY - Hays County reported its first flu-related death Wednesday after 366 positive flu cases had been confirmed since Feb 1.

    According to county officials, there have been a total of 2,109 positive flu cases in Hays County since Dec. 2017 -- 697 in Dec. 2017, 1,046 in Jan. 2018, and then the 366 since Feb. 1.

    Harris and Galveston Counties HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) --
    Harris and Galveston Counties are reporting two more deaths associated with the flu.

    In Harris County, officials tell ABC13 the number of flu-related deaths is now three this season, up one from what was reported in January.

    In Galveston County, the death of a 48-year-old woman has been associated with the flu, the second in that area this season. Officials say she died in late January and had pre-existing health conditions.

    AUSTIN - According to a report from Austin Public Health, 29 influenza deaths have been recorded in Travis County as of Feb. 5.

    Weatherford second-grade teacher dies after getting the flu


    WEATHERFORD - A Weatherford second-grade teacher who had contracted the flu died on Sunday, according to the school district and her family.

    Heather Holland, 38, taught at Bose Ikard Elementary School. Her official cause of death has not been released, but school district officials understand that Holland passed away "due to complications from the flu," according to a statement from the Weatherford district.


    Her husband, Frank, confirmed to WFAA on Monday afternoon that his wife became septic over the weekend after being rushed to the emergency room on Friday night. Dialysis treatment didn't work.

    A Weatherford second-grade teacher died Sunday, apparently from complications from the flu.

    Heather Holland taught at Bose Ikard Elementary School. Her cause of death has not been officially released, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reported. But Weatherford ISD said in a written statement that her death was due to complications from the flu. She was in her 30s.

    AUSTIN (KXAN) ? In the last month, Austin doctors saw a distribution shortage of the drug that eases flu symptoms. Now, health workers nationwide are running out of rapid flu tests.

    This comes as the Austin-Travis County Health Authority released a new numbers of flu-related deaths in the area.

    So far, 28 people have died in Travis County, said Dr. Phil Huang, the authority?s medical director. All of the victims are in their 30s and older. Of those, 19 were 80 years old and older, he said.
