On Friday October 20, Larry Joe played football for Whitewright High School. Larry Joe was happy, healthy and full of life. Saturday morning he came down with flu-like symptoms which progressed to extreme illness caused possibly by toxic shock and/or some unidentified autoimmune response. A few weeks ago, Larry experienced sudden lung failure and was placed on heart-lung life support under sedation. There have been many, many complications and ups and downs for this sweet, sweet family. Larry Joe had a successful surgery yesterday to remove 2 liters of blood from his chest cavity. They also inserted tubes to allow the fluid to drain. They do not yet have a definitive diagnosis of his illness.
