ATLANTA (AP) - The CDC on Wednesday confirmed the first swine flu death outside of Mexico in the current outbreak, a 23-month-old child in Texas. The child died in Houston, Kathy Barton, a spokeswoman for the city's health department, told KTRK-TV. It wasn't immediately clear where the child was from.

      HOUSTON, April 29 (Reuters) -

A nearly two-year-old boy who has become the first death in the United States from the H1N1 swine flu had been receiving aggressive treatment for flu, a Houston health official said on Wednesday.

"It is important for everyone everyone to know that while the death occurred here in Houston ... this child is a resident of Mexico who traveled to Texas to visit family," said David Persse, director of emergency medical services for the city of Houston, adding that the child's family "are healthy and well and have not had any symptoms."

The boy who died lived in Matamoros, on the Mexican border with Texas, Persse said.
