Zachary Thompson, director of Dallas County Health and Human Services, reported Monday the county?s first flu death this season ? in an adult.

?That?s why we?ve been pushing everybody to get a flu shot early,? said Thompson.

The death is unusual not only for the how early it occurred but because influenza is not a reportable disease for adults, he noted...

"We got calls from 24 parents that their children were throwing up overnight and three teachers were sick,? said school director Mary Ann Green. ?And it was scattered throughout the school."

The number of people testing positive for the flu more than tripled in Dallas County the past few weeks sparking new calls from health officials for inoculations...

...the latest Dallas County flu report now includes the death of a resident in October from flu related illness.

For the week of Nov. 16, the report includes 19 people testing positive for the flu. By Nov. 30 the number rose to 67 positive cases...

MARSHALL, TX (KSLA) -

An East Texas teenager has been admitted to Texas children's hospital in Dallas following complications with the flu.

According to a close family member, 14-year-old Jennings Neel of Marshall felt bad the day after Christmas and went to the doctor, where she tested positive for the flu. She was sent home with medications, but deteriorated quickly by the following morning...

The latest flu report from Dallas County Health and Human Services drives home the need to get a flu shot, if you haven?t already.

? Three adult deaths from the flu have been confirmed and two additional deaths are pending confirmation as flu-related.
? Twenty-four people were hospitalized in intensive care in the past two weeks with flu symptoms....

The virulent H1N1 strain of influenza, also known as the swine flu, has been tied to several deaths in Texas including a Euless man who died last month, officials said.

A Houston teen, whose identity was not released, died late last week from the flu, said Kathy Barton, spokeswoman for the city?s health department.

Several adult deaths related to flu, including three in Dallas and four in Beaumont, have been reported by city or county officials. But there is no official statewide tally because health departments are not required to report adult flu-related deaths to the state.

In Tarrant County, health officials believe 30-year-old Dustin Wright of Euless died Dec. 5 of complications related to H1N1.

Three men with other health problems recently died from H1N1 in Harris County, according to Tricia Bentley, a spokeswoman for the county?s Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Northeast Texas Public Health District reported three deaths in Longview.

One person has died in Austin, Travis County officials said, while five others were in critical condition at Seton Medical Center Austin.

Five people have died recently from flu-like illnesses while patients at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, said Sheri Ulmer, Beaumont?s public health director.

They ranged in age from 26 to 67, and all had pneumonia, a common complication of influenza.

Test results show that two of the five tested positive for H1N1. Those two are from Jasper and Bexar counties. The other three were from Jefferson, Orange and Hardin counties.

Dallas: 29-yr-old mom of 3 dies days after symptoms start (Husband reports both A &amp; B strains involved)

Symptoms started on Saturday & she coded on her way to a CAT scan on Monday. Her husband says she had no known health problems, (she was working while he was in school), and is not aware of her having had a flu vaccine this year.

DALLAS ? Health officials in Dallas and Denton counties have confirmed 19 flu-related deaths as medical experts urge people to get vaccinated.

Dallas County Health and Human Services confirms 17 adult flu deaths since late December.

The Denton County Health Department on Monday confirmed the deaths of one adult and a girl. Both people from the Carrollton area had underlying medical problems.

The Texas Department of State Health Services says medical providers are seeing an increase in flu across the state. Current vaccines are designed to protect against H1N1, commonly known as swine flu.

Child flu deaths must be reported to Texas health officials, but adult flu deaths are not tracked statewide.

When Alice Jones came down with the flu last Thursday, the 29-year-old aspiring nurse thought it was the common cold.

While her husband, Darrell, got better, Alice's symptoms persisted. On Saturday he brought her to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with influenza. On Monday the mother of three died. She had no underlying medical conditions, WFAA reports.
