NASHVILLE - Health officials say the number of confirmed cases of swine flu in Tennessee has increased to 114.

Tennessee Department of Health spokeswoman Andrea Turner said today the state lab has received a "steady" stream of specimens every week.

There are 48 confirmed cases in Davidson County, 25 in Knox County and 17 in Williamson County. Anderson, Blount, Bradley, Dyer, Hamblen, Maury, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Shelby, Sullivan and Unicoi counties each have five or fewer cases of the virus known as H1N1.

The number of confirmed H1N1 cases rose dramatically May 7 because the Tennessee Department of Health lab began confirming cases instead of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

The World Health Organization declared a swine flu pandemic today.

More details as they develop online and in Friday's News Sentinel.
