    2 fatal cases of AH1N1 flu in PR

    There have been two fatal cases of AH1N1 swine flu in Puerto Rico as the island Health Department gears up for its annual flu season vaccination and educational campaign.
    Health Secretary Francisco Joglar said six cases of AH1N1 have been confirmed in Puerto Rico.

    Vaccinations will start at the end of August

      Weekly Review 36 (1 through September 7, 2013)
      Cases for the week 36: 68
      Cases accrued from June 1 to September 7, 2013: 2,411
      Health Regions with more cases reported: Bayam?n (31%) and Metro (32%) Influenza-associated Fatalities from June 1 to September 7, 2013: 6

      During the week 36 reported 67 cases of influenza A, 1 influenza B case and no cases of influenza A & B. At the time of this report, the total number of flu cases reported from June 1 to September 7, 2013 is 2,411, of which 1,958 (81%) were cases of influenza A, 416 (17%) cases of influenza B and 37 (2%) cases influenza A & B.

      Around the age groups (Figure 1), is followed by a high incidence of influenza in children. The population of ages between 0-19 years represents 48% of positive influenza cases reported a total of 1,153 cases.
      Moreover, in the group of 0-14 years of age have reported 990 cases (41%), distributed as follows: group 0-4 years 460 cases, in the age group 5-9 years 311 cases, and the 10-14 age group 219 cases.

        During the week 37 reported 419 cases of influenza A, 7 cases of influenza B and 1 case of influenza A & B. At the time of this report, the total number of flu cases reported from June 1 to September 14, 2013 is 4,282, of which 3,639 (85%) were cases of influenza A, 589 (14%) cases of influenza B and 54 (1%) cases influenza A & B.
