Swine flu hot line shutting down

The Oklahoma State Department of Health will close its swine flu hot line Friday because of declining call volume.

The hot line received more than 1,300 calls since it was established April 27, but the calls have steadily dropped.

The department also has begun reporting confirmed cases of the swine flu twice a week instead of daily.

The Web site is updated by 2 p.m. Monday and Thursday.

Ninety-eight cases of swine flu have been reported in 15 Oklahoma counties. Sixty-five were among children younger than 18.

Most of the patients recovered at home, but three were hospitalized. They had underlying medical conditions, health officials said.

The officials remind Oklahomans to practice good hygiene to avoid swine flu, including washing hands often; avoiding touching the eyes, nose or mouth; avoiding close contact with people who are sick; covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing; and staying home when sick.
