    Week 44, ending Nov 2, 2013

    Sentinel Surveillance Summary:
    * The percentage of outpatient visits meeting the criteria for ILI1 was 2.5% (94/3,778).
    * None of the 168 rapid influenza tests performed by sentinel laboratories were positive for influenza.
    * One of seven respiratory specimens tested by PCR at the OSDH Public Health Laboratory (PHL) was positive for influenza B.
    * The positive specimen tested by the PHL was collected from an Oklahoma County resident who was less than 5 years of age, and who was not hospitalized.

    Influenza-Associated Hospitalization Surveillance:
    * One confirmed influenza-associated hospitalization was reported to OSDH between October 30 ? November 5, 2013. This individual tested positive for influenza A 2009 H1N1.
    * The reported hospitalization occurred in an Adair County resident who was 19 to 64 years of age. No influenza-associated deaths have been reported to OSDH.

    Sentinel Surveillance Summary (November 3 through November 9, 2013)
    * The percentage of outpatient visits meeting the criteria for ILI1 was 3.5% (123/3,482).
    * None (0%) of the 186 rapid influenza tests performed by sentinel laboratories were positive for influenza.
    * No respiratory specimens were tested by PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) at the OSDH PHL for influenza during this surveillance period.

    Influenza-Associated Hospitalization Surveillance for 2013-2014 Season
    * Since October 1, 2013, one confirmed influenza-associated hospitalization has been reported to the OSDH.
    * No influenza-associated deaths have been confirmed by the ADS to date.

            • One (11%) of the nine respiratory specimens tested for influenza by PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) at the OSDH PHL during this surveillance period was positive for influenza A 2009 (H1N1).

              ? Twenty-one (8.8%) of the 238 rapid influenza tests performed by sentinel laboratories were positive for influenza. Sixteen (76%) of the specimens were positive for influenza A, and five (24%) specimens were positive for influenza B.
              ? Ten (59%) of the 17 respiratory specimens tested for influenza by PCR at the OSDH Public Health Laboratory were positive for influenza. Nine specimens were positive for influenza A 2009 (H1N1), and one specimen was positive for influenza A (H3).

                  Ninety-one (21.3%) of the 427 rapid influenza tests performed by sentinel laboratories were positive for influenza. Eighty-six (95%) of the specimens were positive for influenza A, and five (5%) specimens were positive for influenza B.

                  Twenty-three (66%) of the 35 respiratory specimens tested for influenza by PCR at the OSDH Public Health Laboratory were positive for influenza A 2009 (H1N1).

                    151 (21.9%) of the 691 rapid influenza tests performed by sentinel laboratories were positive for influenza. 147 (97%) of the specimens were positive for influenza A, and four (3%) specimens were positive for influenza B.
                    Nine (53%) of the 17 respiratory specimens tested for influenza by PCR at the OSDH Public Health Laboratory were positive for influenza A 2009 (H1N1).

                      The percentage of outpatient visits meeting the criteria for ILI1 was 6.9% (331/4,766).
                      208 (21.8%) of the 956 rapid influenza tests performed by sentinel laboratories were positive for influenza. 204 (98%) of the specimens were positive for influenza A, and four (2%) specimens were positive for influenza B.
                      41 (67%) of the 61 respiratory specimens tested for influenza by PCR at the OSDH Public Health Laboratory were positive for influenza. 40 (98%) of those specimens were positive for influenza A 2009 (H1N1). One specimen was positive for influenza A (H3).
