    I just found this interesting news series reported by WHAM in Rochester, NY called "What's Going Around". Each week it offers a synopsis of the most common illnesses being treated by area pediatricians. Here are the reports for May-June.


    What’s Going Around Third Week in June


    In Brighton, Dr. Edward Lewis is seeing kids with mono, flu - like illness, and novel flu.

    In Canandaigua, Dr. Peggy Hollister is treating patients for viral illnesses, gastro-intestinal problems and seasonal allergies.

    In Pittsford, Dr. David Topa is seeing flu-like symptoms, and bad allergies.

    In Brighton, Dr. Correne Wirt is seeing patients with strep throat, asthma and fevers.

    In Greece, Dr. Laurie Shin is treating patients for sore throats, coughs and fevers.


    What’s Going Around Second Week in June

    In Canandaigua, Dr. Peggy Hollister is treating upper respiratory infections, nasal allergies and flu-like symptoms.

    In Pittsford, Dr. David Topa is seeing upper respiratory illnesses and seasonal allergies.

    In Greece, Dr. Laurie Shin is treating seasonal allergies, sore throats and upper respiratory infections.

    In the Southern Tier, Dr. Gayle Mosher is seeing some sore throats, gastrointestinal illnesses, and springtime allergies.

    And in Brighton, Dr. Correne Wirt is seeing strep throat and flu-like illnesses.

    In Canandaigua, Dr. Peggy Hollister is treating strep throat, coughs and colds.

    In Pittsford, Dr. David Topa is seeing upper respiratory infections and seasonal allergies.

    In Brighton, Dr. Correne Wirt is treating strep throat and vomiting and diarrhea.

    In Greece, Dr. Laurie Shin is seeing allergies, rashes and the common cold.

    In the Southern Tier, Dr. Gayle Mosher is seeing springtime allergies, vomiting and gastroenteritis with diarrhea.

    What's Going Around Fourth Week in June:

    In Canandaigua, Dr. Peggy Hollister is treating strep throat, cough, colds and congestion as well as nasal allergies.

    In Pittsford, Dr. David Topa is seeing the flu and flu-like illnesses.

    In Greece, Dr. Laurie Shin is treating strep throat; hand, foot and disease, fevers and summer viruses.

    In Brighton, Dr. Wirt is seeing flu-like illnesses, allergies and strep throat.

    And in Rochester, Dr. Kerry Katlic is seeing the flu, strep pharyngitis, vomiting and diarrhea and seasonal allergies.

      What's Going Around July 1


      The swine flu is finally winding down around central New York; sore throats are What?s Going Around.

      In Cicero, Dr. Terasaka is seeing strep throat; Fifths disease, upper respiratory infections and rashes.

      Sore throats are going around to the south of Syracuse, but the doctors at Brighton Pediatrics say they're viral, not strep.* They're also seeing pink eye.* Some kids have a fever, and no other symptoms.

      At the North Medical Urgent Care in Liverpool, they're seeing sore throats, upper respiratory infections, earaches and coughs.

Strep throat is going around in Auburn; they're also seeing bronchitis, ear infections and the Coxsackie virus.

      In Camillus, Dr. Rovall is still seeing a few swine flu cases, though it's really tapering off, also rashes and Fifths disease.

        WSYR Channel 9 What's Going Around in Syracuse: July 15

        We begin with the latest on the swine flu in Onondaga County. The number of cases here is on the decline, but the county health commissioner says she's still concerned about a swine flu comeback when the kids go back to school this fall.

        As of right now, here are these are the communities with the greatest number of cases so far:*The city of Syracuse, especially zip codes 13202, 13204, 13205 and 13207,*Dewitt, Manlius and Fabius.*


        At the urgent care in Liverpool, they're seeing strep throat and viral sore throats. Stomach bug is also going around.

        To the south of Syracuse at Brighton Pediatrics, they're seeing children with sore throats and colds.

        In Auburn, Dr. Graney's office is seeing strep throat, upper respiratory infections and ear aches.

        In Cicero, Dr. Terasaka's office is still seeing children with fifth disease, also the stomach bug and other kids have swimmers ear.

        In Manlius, Dr. Erlebacher is seeing fewer colds this week, but there's a virus that causes body aches, a sore throat and ends with laryngitis.

        Area pediatricians let 13WHAM’s health team know what’s going around this week.

        In Pittsford, Dr. David Topa is treating several cases of enterovirus in toddlers.* It often includes high fevers, sore throats and rashes as symptoms.

        In Greece, Dr. Laurie Shin is treating seasonal allergies.

        In the Southern Tier, Dr. Gayle Mosher is seeing febrile viral illnesses, sore throats and some fevers.
