  • 2 Jefferson County Residents Die From Flu

Two people have recently died from the flu in Jefferson County.

That's according to the Jefferson County Public Health Service.

Public Health said two county residents "who recently expired" had laboratory-confirmed influenza.

Officials said the two were between the ages of 40 and 55.

No other information about the victims was released.

This year, influenza is impacting middle aged and younger adults hard throughout New York state and the nation.

"This age group tends not to get vaccinated as well as the elderly or young children. The parents get those children vaccinated," said Patricia Esford, preventive services supervisor.

Only influenza-associated pediatric deaths are reportable to the local health department and New York State Department of Health.

Every year, adults die of influenza or complications from the flu.

Influenza-associated adult deaths are not reportable.
