    Flu outbreaks reported at 6 long-term care facilities on Staten Island

    "Amid one of the worst flu seasons in memory, there have been six influenza outbreaks in Staten Island long-term care facilities, the most recent being at Sea View Hospital Rehabilitation Center and Home, according to the city Department of Health.

    "This facility [Sea View] has reported a possible outbreak of influenza. As of now, about 12 patients have symptoms that could be due to influenza -- but none of these have been laboratory-confirmed," said Veronica Lewin, speaking for the Health Department.

    ...Citywide, from Dec. 2 to Jan. 9, 24 outbreaks have been reported at long-term-care facilities. The number of outbreaks during the past three influenza seasons ranged from one to 26. This season, an estimated 350 residents have fallen ill and at least nine have died, according to the Health Department...".
