    NYS
    The overall level of flu activity is currently moderate and appears to be stable when compared to last week.
    Hospitalizations for flu are stable when compared to last week.
    There were no pediatric influenza-associated deaths in NYS (including NYC) reported this week.
    There has been one pediatric influenza-associated death in NYS (including NYC) this season.

    NYC
    * Influenza surveillance activities for the 2011-2012 influenza season began on October 2, 2011.
    * Influenza activity in NYC is low.
    * Influenza-like-illness visits are at 1.8% of all weekly visits, which is below the Mid-Atlantic and
    national baselines.
    * Approximately 7% of all specimens submitted for influenza testing were positive for influenza; 24
    specimens were positive for Flu A and 17 specimens were positive for Flu B. In addition, 3% of
    specimens tested were positive for RSV.

    There was one reported influenza A outbreak from a long-term care facility (LTCF) in the Bronx during
    Week 19.

          specimens were positive for Flu A and 14 specimens were positive for Flu B. In addition, 3% of
          specimens tested were positive for RSV.

          There was one reported influenza A outbreak from a long-term care facility (LTCF) in Staten Island during
          Week 20. Approximately 25% of residents on one floor were affected.

              * Approximately 3% of all specimens submitted for influenza testing were positive for influenza; 11
              specimens were positive for Flu A and 11 specimens were positive for Flu B. In addition, 4% of
              specimens tested were positive for RSV.

              Two long-term care facilities reported outbreaks of influenza-like illness; no testing was done. A facility that
              experienced an influenza outbreak with an attack rate of almost 40% on one floor reported a new cluster on
              a second floor that was also identified as influenza A.

                Influenza A still the majority.


                NYC
                * Influenza surveillance activities for the 2011-2012 influenza season began on October 2, 2011.
                * Influenza activity in NYC is low.
                * Influenza-like-illness visits are at 1.6% of all weekly visits, which is below the Mid-Atlantic and
                national baselines.
                * Approximately 2% of all specimens submitted for influenza testing were positive for influenza; 4
                specimens were positive for Flu A and 3 specimens were positive for Flu B. In addition, 2% of
                specimens tested were positive for RSV.

                There were no reported influenza outbreaks from long term care facilities during this week. To date this
                season there were 12 outbreaks caused by influenza A, 2 caused by influenza B and 7 outbreaks of unknown
                etiology where there was either no testing done, or all testing was negative for influenza.

                      This report represents the final NYSDOH weekly influenza surveillance report for the 2011-12 season. The weekly report for the 2012-13 influenza season will begin in October 2012.
