    NYS
    The overall level of flu activity is currently low and appears to be stable when compared to last week.
    Hospitalizations for flu are stable when compared to last week.
    There were no pediatric influenza-associated deaths in NYS (including NYC) reported this week.
    There have been no pediatric influenza-associated deaths in NYS (including NYC) this season.



    NYC
    * Influenza activity in NYC currently is low.
    * Influenza-like-illness visits are at 2.2% of all weekly visits, which is below the Mid-Atlantic and
    national baselines.
    * Approximately 1% of all specimens submitted for influenza testing were positive for influenza; 8
    specimens were positive for Flu A and 2 specimens were positive for Flu B. In addition, 18% of
    specimens tested were positive for RSV. Influenza A specimens subtyped within the last several
    weeks at several laboratories were identified as both H3N2 and 2009H1N1.

      weeks at several laboratories were identified as either H3N2 or 2009H1N1.

        There were no reported nosocomial respiratory outbreaks from long-term care facilities during Week 7.

          of specimens tested were positive for RSV. Influenza A specimens subtyped within the last sever-
          al weeks at several laboratories were identified as either H3N2 or 2009H1N1.

          There was one reported nosocomial respiratory outbreak from a long-term care facility during Week 8. One
          patient had a specimen positive for RSV.

            * Approximately 5.8% of all specimens submitted for influenza testing were positive for influenza;
            62 specimens were positive for Flu A and 6 specimens were positive for Flu B. In addition, 7% of
            specimens tested were positive for RSV. Influenza A specimens subtyped within the last several
            weeks at several laboratories were identified as either H3N2 or 2009H1N1.

            There were two reported influenza outbreaks from long-term care facilities during Week 9. One facility
            reported illness from both influenza A and influenza B.

            Influenza-associated pediatric deaths have been nationally notifiable since October 2004. There were no
            pediatric influenza-associated deaths reported in NYC during Week 9 or to date this season.

                            There was one reported influenza outbreak from a long-term care facility (LTCF) in the Bronx during Week
                            17. This was reported by the infection control staff of the acute care facility where two residents from this
                            LTCF were admitted. Their presenting symptoms were not typical of influenza-like illness (ILI).

                                As in other states, early indicators in NYS have remained elevated when they should be falling.
