        Laboratory tests for influenza: the Scientific Lab Division (SLD) reported the first positive sample for influenza (influenza type B) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or culture. The sample was collected on a young male child from the McKinley county area of the state.

              New Mexico Week 47:
              ILI: 3.2% (Region 4 reporting ILI at 8.8%)
              The Influenza Surveillance Program also received report from a commercial lab based in the state of a second positive influenza sample (influenza type B) detected on culture. The sample was collected on 11/21/2011. That brings the total positive influenza samples to two detected via the laboratory surveillance system since early October.

              The border region includes 12 influenza sentinel surveillance sites within 100 kilometers (60 miles) of US/Mexico border. The sites reported a total of 4640 patient visits for the reporting period, of which 17 (0.4%) were positive for an influenza-like illness.

                Laboratory tests for influenza: since early October, the Scientific Lab Division (SLD) has reported one positive sample for influenza (influenza type B) by PCR. The Influenza Surveillance Program also received report from a commercial lab based in the state of an additional positive influenza sample (influenza type B) detected on culture. That brings the total positive influenza samples to six, all influenza type B, detected via the laboratory surveillance system since early October.

                No deaths have been reported

                              2 deaths reported (both in elderly persons, caused by lab-confirmed influenza. Both occurred in the month of February, one in Bernalillo County and one in Colfax County)
