ATHENS ? After a suspected influenza outbreak, Athens Area Schools will be closed today and Wednesday, Superintendent Rich Franklin said in an email.
Franklin said in the email that 31 percent of students at East Leroy Elementary were absent because of illness. Absences were lower at Athens Junior-Senior High School, he said, but he decided after speaking with the Calhoun County Public Health Department to close both buildings because the two share buses and would require the same thorough cleaning...
