  • Louisiana 2012-13 Season: Weeks 47-16 (One New Pediatric Death; Total Two)

    Week 47: influenza-like illness increased slightly in Louisiana. Based on data reported from sentinel laboratories, 21.2% of samples were positive for influenza. The percent of positive samples continues to increase. All samples submitted to CDC from Louisiana for subtyping have been the H3 virus that matches the component of the 2012-2013 Northern Hemisphere.

    Influenza-like illness remained stable in Louisiana. There was an increase in the tests reported from sentinel laboratories this week but the percent positive (19.7) slightly decreased. All samples submitted to CDC from Louisiana for subtyping have been the H3 virus that matches the component of the 2012-2013 Northern Hemisphere.

      The percent of positive samples from sentinel laboratories and the state lab
      also increased. All samples submitted to CDC from Louisiana for subtyping have been the H3 virus that matches the component of the 2012-2013 Northern Hemisphere.

        During week 50 (December 9 -December 15, 2012) influenza-like illness increased in Louisiana. The percent of positive samples from sentinel laboratories and the state labalso increased. All samples submitted to CDC from Louisiana for subtyping have been the H3 virus that matches the component of the 2012-2013 Northern Hemisphere.

        ILI: ~6.5% (>10% Region 6)
        ~29% positive for influenza; majority A

          During week 51 (December 16 -December 22, 2012) influenza-like illness increased in Louisiana. The percent of positive samples from sentinel laboratories and the state lab also increased. All samples submitted to CDC from Louisiana for subtyping have been the H3 virus that matches the component of the 2012-2013 Northern Hemisphere.

          ILI: ~8% (>10% Region 6)
          ~31% positive for influenza; majority A

            During week 52 (December 23 -December 29, 2012) influenza-like illness increased in Louisiana. The percent of positive samples from sentinel laboratories and the state lab decreased slightly. All samples submitted to CDC for subtyping so far this season have been characterized as A/VICTORIA/361/2011-LIKE(H3N2) GP, the influenza A (H3N2) component of the 2012-2013 Northern Hemisphere vaccine.

            ILI: ~8.8% (>10% Regions 3,6,7)

              During week 1 (December 30, 2012 - January 5, 2013) influenza-like illness slightly decreased in Louisiana. The percent of positive samples from sentinel laboratories and the state lab remains stable. All samples submitted to CDC for subtyping so far this season have been characterized as A/VICTORIA/361/2011-LIKE(H3N2) GP, the influenza A (H3N2) component of the 2012-2013 Northern Hemisphere vaccine.

The percent of positive samples from sentinel laboratories and the state lab slightly increased. All influenza A samples submitted to CDC for subtyping so far this season have been characterized as A/VICTORIA/361/2011-LIKE(H3N2) GP, the influenza A (H3N2) component of the 2012-2013 Northern Hemisphere vaccine. An influenza B specimen submitted for characterization belonged to the B/Victoria lineage which was the 2011-2012 B component of the Northern Hemisphere vaccine formulation. The 2012-2013 formulation is from the B/Yamagata lineage.

                  ILI: ~5.2% (>10% regions 3,6,7,8)
