Farmington School District confirms case of H1N1 flu

FARMINGTON -
Farmington Central Elementary School District 265 has reported a confirmed case of H1N1 influenza virus.
Superintendent Mark Doan says all schools will remain open and operating normally. The district is working with local and state health department officials to monitor the situation.
To reduce the spread of the virus, parents are asked to have children practice good hygiene by washing their hands often; keeping their hands away from eyes, nose, and mouth; and covering coughs and sneezes with their sleeves or a tissue.
Parents were also asked to keep children home from school who are showing any flu symptoms, such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue. Parents should also contact the school.
Students who come to school with flu-like symptoms will be evaluated by school staff and sent home when necessary, according to information from the school.
Parents were counseled to keep students with the flu home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
"The safety and well-being of all students and employees is our top priority," says Doan in a message to parents. "We are taking the steps necessary to do everything we can to minimize the effect of H1N1 in our schools. In addition, our custodial staff has been very proactive in their cleaning protocols."
