ELDORADO, Ill. ---
A southern Illinois school district is closed until early next week because of what's being called an outbreak of a flu-like illness affected nearly 300 students.
Officials in the Eldorado school system in Saline County say around 190 students are out sick in the elementary school. That's nearly 30 percent of the school's enrollment.
Another 50 middle schoolers and 56 high schoolers also are absent.
Superintendent Gary Siebert says the district will cash in emergency days Thursday and Friday, with classes to resume next Tuesday after Monday's Columbus Day holiday.
Officials in nearby Harrisburg are also seeing some illness, but aren't shutting their schools.
