Rush orders staff to get seasonal flu shots

    September 30, 2009

Rush University Medical Center has decided to require all of its employees, students and volunteers to get a seasonal flu shot, hoping to prevent workers from spreading flu to patients.

The H1N1 flu vaccine might also be made mandatory for Rush's more than 8,000 employees and 1,500 students, depending on vaccine supply.

Employees who object on medical, religious or cultural grounds will be allowed to request an exemption. http://www.suntimes.com/lifestyles/h...-flu30.article

[I'm not sure if there is a separate thread for this new policy - the "requirement" of Swine flu vaccine to all employees of this hospital, and all voluntteers.....]

A large Chicago hospital is requiring all employees, students, volunteers and contractors to get a yearly seasonal flu shot.
Rush University Medical Center announced the new policy Tuesday. The hospital also will require the swine flu vaccine, depending on its availability.
Rush says it's ordered enough vaccine for more than 8,000 employees and 1,500 students. The shots will be free.
Some exemptions may be granted for medical and other reasons. But those with exemptions will be required to wear a face mask in all patient areas during flu season.
Several infectious disease groups support required flu vaccination for health workers. Loyola University Medical Center in suburban Chicago also has made seasonal flu shots mandatory for all workers.
