12 flu-related deaths reported in Idaho this season

BOISE — At least 12 people have died of flu-related causes throughout the state this season, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
Of the 12, three were children, Dr. Christine Hahn said in a phone interview Tuesday afternoon. Two lived in eastern Idaho and one in northern Idaho.

A 13-year-old Idaho girl died less than two weeks after she was diagnosed with the flu and treated with antibiotics, loved ones said.
Liliana “Lily” Clark, of Idaho Falls, visited an urgent care clinic Dec. 27 after complaining of a sore throat and fever, according to a GoFundMe page launched by family friend Deseray Burtenshaw.
The teen was diagnosed with the flu and left the doctor with a prescription for the antiviral medication Tamiflu, Burtenshaw said.
But two days later, she was rushed back to the medical center when she was unable to breathe and appeared green in color, the page said.

IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls girl went to the doctor with a sore throat and fever, but her sickness took a turn for the worse and she died four days before her 14th birthday.
Liliana “Lily” Isabel Juson Clark visited an urgent care clinic on Dec. 27 because she wasn’t feeling well, according to a GoFundMe page set up by Deseray Burtenshaw. Burtenshaw is a friend of Clark’s mom.
On Sunday, less than two weeks later, Clark died due to flu complications. Her family was by her side when she passed away.

The recent deaths of two women in Idaho are the first flu-related deaths of the season, state officials said.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare did not release the dates of their deaths, but said both women were older than 70, The Idaho Press reports.
