MILTON - A 34-year-old Santa Rosa County man has died from the H1N1 flu, according to a Florida Department of Health press release.

In the past few weeks, the county has seen a slight increase in the number of positive tests for Type A flu, which could be H1N1, the release said. Health officials are not alarmed but will continue to monitor the situation.

The man?s death marks the second H1N1-related death in Santa Rosa County and the fifth death in the area in the past year. The other four deaths occurred between August and September.

On Aug. 6, Chase Ray, a 21-year-old DeFuniak Springs man, died from swine flu. On Sept. 11, a 52-year-old Santa Rosa County man who had preexisting health conditions died.

Two deaths were recorded in Okaloosa County. On Oct. 16, the Okaloosa County Health Department announced that a 33-year-old woman died. On Oct. 28, the department announced that a 51-year-old woman died. Both had underlying medical conditions.

There have been 202 deaths associated with H1N1 in Florida. Hours at clinics in Santa Rosa County giving out vaccinations will be open extended hours in February.
