    Influenza Season 2015 - 2016
Reporting through the week ending April 16, 2016

    Synopsis
For the week ending April 16, flu activity decreased across the state. After accounting for reporting delays,
the number of hospitalizations due to influenza appears to have peaked the week ending March 12, 2016.
 There were 85 additional influenza-associated hospitalizations reported; 43 with a collection date during
the week ending April 16 and 42 from previous weeks. The total number of hospitalizations was 1422
from 50 counties. It is unclear if the number of hospitalizations due to influenza B has peaked yet. (See
    Figures 1 and 2 and Tables 1 and 2.)
 Influenza-like illness reported by Kaiser Permanente for the Denver-Boulder metropolitan area fell to
1.0% (compared to 1.3% the previous week). Influenza-like illness reported by Mesa County decreased to
0.9% (compared to 1.0% the previous week). (See Figures 3 and 4.)
 Since Oct. 4, 2015, 1598 specimens have been sent to the State lab for confirmation (457 from inpatient
hospital visits and 1141 from outpatient hospital visits). Of the 1366 PCR positive tests, 1213 (88.8%)
tested positive for influenza A and 153 (11.2%) tested positive for influenza B. Among influenza A
    positive specimens, 243 (17.8%) were H3N2 and 968 (70.9%) were 2009 H1N1. (See Table 3.)
 Sentinel hospital labs (23 of 25 reporting) tested 1236 specimens and 129 (10.4%) were positive for
    influenza. (See Figure 5.)
 25 outbreaks associated with influenza in a long-term care facility have been reported thus far.
 The first pediatric death associated with influenza of the season was confirmed during the week ending
    March 26.
 Among recent seasons, this is the latest influenza peak week since 2011-2012.
