  • AL: AL Hosp. Assoc. survey on current flu season

Alabama's hospitals offer reports on flu season so far

"Asked to respond to questions about the severity of this year's flu season so far, about half -- 46 percent -- of 56 practitioners reported that this season was one of the worst flu seasons they had experienced.

The practitioners answered a recent survey conducted by the Alabama Hospital Association. The 56 represent about half of the state's hospitals.

Thirty-one percent responded that this flu season "was not that different than previous seasons." Twenty-three percent responded that "it is too early to tell."

...The survey measured emergency department (ED) visits from October through the second week in January. The highest numbers were in December, with 5,680 confirmed cases treated in the ED and 459 admissions.

Flu cases represented only about four percent of ED visits and a little more than one percent of admissions during December...".
