they might have figured out where new seasonal strains originate.
But would they tell us ? The military are known for their secrecy.
              Is it India ?

The DoD site has been down since my last report so I'll post the link to the Naval Febrile Respiratory Illness (FRI) surveillance updates. It's 2 weeks behind but it gives us a look at what's happening on some of the bases. There are a lot of charts and graphs to look at.

                      Week 50, ending Dec 14

NHRC Laboratory-Confirmed Influenza Cases, US Military Basic Trainees
                      Total to Date: 255

                      Current Week, STD
                      A/H1N1: 4, 6
                      A/H3: 0, 1
                      B: 2, 4

*Among 24 specimens tested. Three H1 cases and one B case were vaccinated > 14 days prior to illness.

                      FRI Rates
? FRI surveillance is ongoing at 8 U.S. military basic training centers, representing all service branches.

                      Week ending 14 December 2013:
                      - At or below expected value:
                      Fort Jackson
                      Fort Leonard Wood
Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego
Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island
Lackland Air Force Base (data through 7 December)
Coast Guard Training Center, Cape May
                      ? Moderately elevated:
                      Fort Benning
                      ? Substantially elevated:

The DoD site is still down, so I'll continue with the navy reports until it's up again.

                        Wk 52, ending Dec 28

                        - FRI rates at all training centers are at or below expected values
                        - Increase in flu activity at NRTC Great Lakes and Fort Benning

                        Lab Confirmed Cases:
                        Current wk, STD
                        A H1N1: 18, 24
                        A H3: 2, 3
                        B: 0, 4

*Among 79 specimens tested. 14 H1 cases and 1 H3 case were vaccinated > 14 days prior to illness.

There are a number of graphs showing additional respiratory illnesses.

According to public statements, the US Military personnel are among the group most protected by the vaccination process with rates of overall vaccination above 90% across all branches.

The attached report demonstrates a pH1N1 vaccine escape rate of only 17%?

If 90%+ are vaccinated, then who exactly are the remaining unvaccinated 64 cases (79 less 15 indicated as vaccinated)? Do we have a process to communicate the status of those who test positive?

                            NS1,
I've never seen any info on the 10% who were not vaxed. Does the military make it mandatory for everyone?

Maybe it's due to their locations?
