    Print STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- So many people are coming into the emergency room at Staten Island University Hospital with flu symptoms or snow-related injuries that the hospital is holding over its staff to deal with the backlog.

    As of this afternoon, 82 patients were awaiting treatment at the emergency room on the hospital?s Ocean Breeze campus, and another 12 were awaiting treatment at the Prince?s Bay campus, said Arleen Ryback, a hospital spokeswoman.

    Statistics from the city Department of Health show a sharp increase in emergency room visits city-wide due to "influenza-like illness" starting in the end of December, with more than 500 visits on several days in the past two weeks.
