LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office says Brittany Murphy's death was caused by pneumonia with secondary factors of iron-deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication.

Coroner's spokesman Craig Harvey says the drugs ingested were all prescription medications.

The findings were released Thursday. A full complete will be ready in about two weeks and will detail the specific types of drugs involved, Harvey said.

Murphy, 32, was found in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home on Dec. 20.

When paramedics arrived, the notes say, Brittany was "without signs of life." The actress was in full cardiac arrest when she arrived at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, and was declared dead shortly after 10 a.m.

The pathologist assigned Murphy's case was looking for doctors who may have prescribed drugs to the actress.

According to published reports, Murphy was anemic and being treated for other conditions around the time of her death.

Officials had said Murphy's unexpected death appeared to be from natural causes, and there were no signs of trauma to the actress' body.

Murphy was apparently taking prescription medications for flu-like symptoms she had been experiencing for several days.

Notes written by a coroner's investigator and obtained by celebrity website TMZ said numerous prescription drugs were found on Murphy's nightstand, including: Topamax, an anti-seizure medication also used for migraine headaches; Methylprednisolone, an anti-inflammatory; Fluoxetine, a medication for depression; Klonopin, an anti-anxiety medication; Carbamazepine, for diabetic symptoms and a bipolar medication; Ativan, another anti-anxiety medication; Vicoprofen, a pain reliever; Propranolol, for hypertension and to prevent heart attacks; Biaxin, an antibiotic; and hydrocodone, a pain medication.

The coroner's office was investigating how those notes were leaked.

Murphy had a history of hypoglycemia, and was hospitalized in April 2009 for low blood sugar while filming on location in Oregon.

In 2005 the actress faced questions about her apparent weight loss and conjecture that it could be related to cocaine use, which she denied.

"I am also way too high-strung," she's quoted as saying. "I can't even take a Sudafed. Can you imagine? My God. I think my heart would explode. I mean, literally something terrible. That's awful."

Murphy appeared upbeat at a Dec. 3 fashion event, in what may have been her final public appearance. She told Access Hollywood at the event: "As far as having a New Year's resolution, I'd love to have a child next year."

Her breakthrough role came in 1995, as a dowdy high school student (and best friend of star Alicia Silverstone's character) in "Clueless."

Murphy worked steadily after that. She shared the screen with Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie in 1999's "Girl, Interrupted."

She played Eminem's love interest in "8 Mile" and Ashton Kutcher's wife in "Just Married."

She starred as a suspicious girlfriend in 2004's "Little Black Book" and a barmaid with an abusive ex-boyfriend in 2005's "Sin City."

She also voiced Gloria the penguin in the 2006 animated film "Happy Feet."

Murphy was juggling multiple movie projects in the months before her unexpected death, wrapping two indie thrillers over the summer and preparing to shoot a romantic comedy next month.

          Deliberate poisoning suspected....

Brittany Murphy Cause Of Death In Question After New Report Allegedly Suggests Poisoning

Brittany Murphy's cause of death has come into question following a lab report that allegedly suggests the actress may have been poisoned.

Murphy died in 2009 at the age of 32. Her death, which was concluded to be accidental, was attributed to multiple drug intoxication, pneumonia and "iron deficiency anemia." Five months later, her husband, Simon Monjack, was also found dead. The 40-year-old was said to have also died of pneumonia and anemia.

Last year, Murphy's father, Angelo Bertolotti, sued the Los Angeles Coroner?s Office and the Los Angeles Police Department to get further toxicology reports, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He accused the departments of "failure to conduct toxicology tests on the specimens" of hair and attested "his daughter?s death was incorrectly determined to have been allegedly caused by pneumonia and anemia.?

After Bertolotti filed the lawsuit, Julia Davis, a screenwriter who worked for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and was working on a biography about Murphy, raised the possibility of poisoning.

"It was highly disturbing to find out that they've neither tested, nor ever intended to test Brittany or Simon?s hair for toxins, poisonous substances and heavy metals," she wrote in a press release, obtained by THR. "These two deaths were simply written off to natural causes, but we don?t agree with this conclusion... The truth will eventually come out, we?ll make sure of it.?

The lawsuit was dismissed, but Bertolotti reportedly secured the release of Murphy's hair, blood and tissues for independent testing, according to the Examiner. He sent the samples to the Carlson Company in Colorado for analysis.

Results supposedly showed the presence of 10 heavy metals above the "high" level set by the World Health Organization.

"Since the autopsy narrative recorded a number of symptoms synonymous with poisoning, I requested testing for heavy metals/toxins," Davis wrote in an email to The Huffington Post Monday. "My suspicions were confirmed. Ten heavy metals were found in abnormally high quantities (as much as 9 times over the 'high' limit designated by the World Health Organization). These types of heavy metals/toxic elements are commonly found in rat poison, pesticides, insecticides, etc. Since neither Brittany nor Simon would have willingly consumed any such substances, the lab concluded that they may have been introduced by a third party with criminal intent."

She said she has sent formal requests to the authorities "demanding" the deaths be "properly" investigated based on these recent results.

Bertolotti, it seems, wants to clear Murphy's and Monjack's names.

?Vicious rumors, spread by tabloids, unfairly smeared Brittany?s reputation,? he told the Examiner. ?My daughter was neither anorexic nor a drug junkie, as they repeatedly implied. Brittany and Simon were ridiculed by The Hollywood Reporter, when they complained of being under surveillance and in fear for their lives. I will not rest until the truth about these tragic events is told. There will be justice for Brittany.?

Bertolotti and the LA County Coroner could not be immediately reached for further comment.

After Murphy's sudden death, rumors circulated about anorexia, an accidental overdose and even suicide, ABC News previously reported. Mold was speculated to be a factor in the deaths, but Los Angeles County assistant chief coroner Ed Winter dismissed the gossip.

"At the time of their death, both of them were in very poor health. I don't think they ate correctly or took care of themselves. They didn't seek medical attention," Winter told ABC News, but he admitted the eerily similar deaths were "unusual."

Lab report indicates Brittany Murphy, husband possibly poisoned

            LOS ANGELES, Nov. 18 (UPI)
            ...
Testing by the Carlson Co., a private laboratory, turned up high levels of aluminum, manganese, barium and other metals, TheWrap.com reported Monday. The lab's report said that pointed to the possibility they were deliberately poisoned by "a third party perpetrator with likely criminal intent."

"It's a bona fide report," the lab's general manager, Denny Seilheimer, told TheWrap. "It was our client's prerogative to release the report. That's all I can tell you."

I hope they check the home environment for unintentional toxins, too. Look what happened in a lovely neighborhood on the other side of the country:

At the end of a leafy, dead-end street in Coconut Grove, past actor Christian Slater's new digs and the sprawling grounds of Hollywood director David Frankel's home, sit mounds of rubble. Just a few days ago, this was one of Miami's grandest, most envied private homes: the five-acre, 26,000-square-foot du...

The property was recently sold at a monstrous discount after a survey showed arsenic, barium, lead, copper, and other toxic contaminants at levels far above what's considered safe. In all, environmental engineers estimated the site contains as much as 100,000 tons of tainted soil buried as deep as 18 feet.

Nordt grew up a stone's throw away, in the two-story Mediterranean Revival recently purchased by Christian Slater. As a boy, the surgeon recalls trucks rumbling down the street, perhaps two or three times a week. They backed up to a low ridge overlooking the property and dumped their loads.
Of course, residents aren't dying like this in Coconut Grove, in spite of the contamination. We still don't know if the levels in Ms. Murphy's hair sample wouldn't be also be found in many seemingly healthy people, though, just from environmental exposures from soil and water and even mineral cosmetics. Another source with similar metals is fireworks exposure.

            http://articles.timesofindia.indiati...rs-toxic-waste
Experts also said the crackers contain elements like copper, cadmium, sulphur, aluminium, barium and various others that help in releasing vibrant colours after it is ignited. Once a cracker is burnt, it releases toxic chemicals that remain suspended for long time causing serious health aliments. "Harmful substances produced by crackers settle on tree leaves or any other surface in dust form. As it remains in atmosphere for a longer duration, people inhale it regularly which causes many breathing problems," said Dr PK Gupta.
Both cosmetics and fireworks exposures are pretty much unregulated.

With the uranium level being high, you'd think that would warrant a test of the drinking water at the home:

Grand Rounds: Nephrotoxicity in a Young Child Exposed to Uranium from Contaminated Well Water
The family first became aware of the possibility of uranium exposure after a neighbor was found to have markedly elevated levels of uranium in her hair. This neighbor had had her hair tested for a range of metals because she was concerned that she had been exposed to mercury from her dental fillings; mercury levels in the neighbor?s hair were not elevated.
Also I wonder about what was used as fill for grading the home. Of course, I don't know the significance of the levels found, but it might be good to do an environmental investigation.
