    2nd Michigan case of monkeypox identified in person from city of Detroit

    A second Michigan case of monkeypox has been identified in a person from the city of Detroit, state health leaders told the Free Press on Thursday.

    It is unclear whether the Detroiter with monkeypox is linked to the state's first confirmed case, which was identified last week in Oakland County, said Lynn Sutfin, a spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

    Both remain under investigation, Sutfin said, as health officials try to identify close contacts of the people who have monkeypox and might have been exposed...

        DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Health Department officials say a second case of monkeypox has been confirmed in the city, making for the third confirmed case in the metro area.

        "The phase we're in right now is containment. We don't want monkeypox to become an endemic in the state of Michigan or in the United States,” said Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, the state's chief medical officer.

        Detroit health officials say an event held on June 26 in Midtown may have exposed dozens of people to the virus.

        At this time, WXYZ will not identify the name of the bar and event to allow the department to conduct contact tracing and testing.

        According to Denise Fair Rezo, Detroit’s health director, more than 100 people have already been notified by phone or email that they were exposed to the virus at the event...

          DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting nine confirmed cases of monkeypox in Michigan.

          On Monday, the CDC reported six confirmed cases in Michigan. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services told 7 Action News on Monday there were three cases in Oakland County, one in the city of Detroit and one in Kent County...

                62 confirmed cases of monkeypox in Michigan

                The state confirmed 62 cases of monkeypox in Michigan as of Wednesday.

                That’s seven more than Tuesday and 25 cases more than Friday’s 37 cases.

                “This is not real time data…” said Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, Michigan’s Chief Medical Executive on Tuesday. “These numbers are updating all the time. So it could be higher than that now but we are expecting to see the numbers of cases of MPV in Michigan go up, as they are going up around the country and of course, around the world.”...
