Sacramento County public health officials are investigating a “likely” case of monkeypox virus related to travel in Europe, officials announced Tuesday morning.

The patient still needs confirmation testing from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the California Department of Public Health, but officials say monkeypox confirmation is likely based on symptoms.

The person is isolated at home, and officials said risk to the general public is "extremely low."...

LA County reports first apparent monkeypox case
Because monkeypox cases are usually more common in African nations, its appearance in the United States has generated headlines, particularly among a populace weary of the COVID-19 pandemic. But health officials insist the illness is far less infectious.

The result is presumptive, pending confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

An adult resident recently traveled, and came in contact with, “a known close contact to a case,” according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

The patient is doing fine, officials said, adding that the person is not hospitalized but is isolated from others...

Monkeypox Case Suspected in Alameda County
By NBC Bay Area staff • Published 31 mins ago • Updated 24 mins ago

Another suspected case of monkeypox in the Bay Area was announced Thursday by health officials.

The latest case is in Alameda County, where a resident tested positive for orthopox and is suspected to be infected with the monkeypox virus, officials said.

A statement from the county said the California Department of Public Health is conducting testing and results will be further examined by the CDC to confirm monkeypox infection.

San Francisco last week reported its first "probable" monkey case.

California has reported at least eight probable and confirmed cases of monkeypox, and there are at least 40 cases across the country...

Los Angeles County has reported its second probable case of monkeypox as California’s total probable case tally rises to 12..

The L.A. County Department of Public Health said the latest case occurred in an adult who recently traveled. “They are symptomatic but doing well and isolating away from others,” officials said in a statement Wednesday.

L.A. County’s first suspected monkeypox case — which was first reported last week and has since been confirmed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — is not related to the suspected case reported on Wednesday, L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said.

San Francisco reported three additional probable cases of monkeypox on Thursday, meaning the city has reported a total of four probable cases — two of whom have traveled recently, while the other two have not.

Also on Thursday, Alameda County announced its first probable case of monkeypox.

Sacramento County has reported at least five confirmed and suspected monkeypox cases, according to the California Department of Public Health.

That brings the total of confirmed and suspected monkeypox cases in California to 12 as of Friday morning...

Officials with County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency said two probable cases of monkeypox have been detected among county residents.

The cases, which are being forwarded to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation, are unrelated to each other, officials said, adding that both of the people infected had recently traveled internationally. While both showed symptoms of the virus, they are "doing well," as the county said. Neither has been hospitalized.

Officials said the two people who were infected are being isolated...

By Michael McGough June 16, 2022 11:18 AM

Sacramento County health officials have detected another probable case of monkeypox, the sixth local infection identified since late May and the first disclosed in more than a week.

An update to the county health office’s webpage for monkeypox showed the local case count for probable and confirmed cases increasing from five on Wednesday to six Thursday morning.

Further details about the sixth case were not available.A county spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The first five cases have all been confirmed as monkeypox by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, county health spokeswoman Samantha Mott said Wednesday.

The California Department of Public Health as of Tuesday afternoon reported 17 total probable or confirmed cases statewide. Monkeypox has been detected in Alameda, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles counties, according to local health officials...

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A sixth and seventh case of monkeypox was found in Sacramento County, and unlike the first five cases, these new cases are related to travel within the United States.

“There’s just a lot going on the last couple of years. It’s just annoying,” said Sean Wilson, who’s traveling from Sacramento to Alaska.

But anxiety has once again set in after the Sacramento County Department of Public Health confirmed there are now seven monkeypox cases in the area.

“We have no proof of casual transmission. It appears to be prolonged contact with people, and so we’re not expecting this to have widespread transmission like we did with COVID,” said Dr. Dean Blumber, a UC Davis infectious disease expert...

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Another probable case of monkeypox has been identified in Sacramento County, health officials say.

The new case would be the 8th total in the area as of Tuesday. It still needs to be confirmed by the CDC.

Sacramento County Public Health officials say the new probable case looks to be related to domestic travel. A 6th and 7th suspected case of monkeypox was identified last week, and both of those cases were also said to be related to travel within the US...
