There have been 119 monkeypox cases documented in Utah as of Friday, with 73% of infections concentrated in Salt Lake County, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.

Salt Lake County has reported seven new cases since Tuesday, according to Nicholas Rupp, county health department spokesperson. The county now accounts for 87 of the state’s cases, followed by Utah County with 12 cases.

Davis County and the Weber/Morgan County area each have reported eight cases. Summit County reported two cases, followed by one case each in Tooele County and in the Tri-County area.

“Our epidemiologists told me that what we’re seeing here is matching the overall trend nationally,” Rupp said.

There’s more monkeypox in Utah. But how many cases depends who you ask
    By Lisa Riley Roche
    Jul 18, 2022, 7:34pm EDT

The number of monkeypox cases in Utah continues to climb, but it’s not clear how many cases there have been so far.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting 13 monkeypox cases in Utah. But the Utah Department of Health and Human Services has recorded only 11 cases in the state — eight in Salt Lake County and one each in Utah and Davis counties, and the area served by the Weber-Morgan Health Department.

Utah state epidemiologist Dr. Leisha Nolen said a similar difference in the count recently was due to a Utah resident being diagnosed with the virus in California, and California authorities alerting the CDC but not passing along the information to Utah.

“That’s where the errors come in,” Nolen said. “We would like to have those updates, certainly if the person comes back to our state so we can make sure to connect with them, make sure they’re able to isolate and prevent the spread to other people, as well as find out if other people have been exposed.”...

There’s a third case of monkeypox in Salt Lake County. Here’s what you need to know
    By Lisa Riley Roche
    Jun 28, 2022, 5:06pm EDT

There’s a third case of monkeypox in Utah.

The case was confirmed last Friday in a Salt Lake County resident who, like the two previous cases identified in the county, became infected during international travel, the Salt Lake County Health Department said, adding that the person is in isolation and does not present a risk to the community.

“Since this case was also acquired during international travel, it doesn’t really change the risk to Salt Lake County residents; we have not identified any local transmission,” Nicholas Rupp, county health department spokesman, told the Deseret News on Tuesday...

CDC Confirms 2 Monkeypox Cases in Utah, Infected Individuals in Insolation
The Salt Lake County Health Department initially reported two “probable” cases of the virus on Monday based on preliminary testing
By Stephanie Wenger May 26, 2022 12:42 PM

Two cases of monkeypox were confirmed in Salt Lake County, Utah on Wednesday.

The Salt Lake County Health Department originally reported two "probable" cases of the virus based on preliminary testing on Monday.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the diagnoses after additional testing, according to a press release from Salt Lake County.

The two infected individuals — who live in the same household — are in insolation and "experiencing mild illness." There currently "do no present a risk to the public," health officials said.

The Utah Department of Health and Human Exposure have contacted specific individuals "who had direct, close contact with the infected individuals during their infectious period," according to the press release.

They had recently traveled "internationally earlier this month to an area currently experiencing monkeypox cases," the press release stated.

Two adults in the same Salt Lake County household are suspected to have monkeypox based on preliminary testing, Salt Lake County Health Department officials announced Monday morning.
