BY SPECTRUM NEWS STAFF ORANGE COUNTY
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Wedgefield School, a kindergarten through eighth-grade school in eastern Orange County, has notified the district of the first positive case of monkeypox with a link to an Orange County public school, the district confirmed Thursday.
The Florida Department of Health-Orange on Tuesday evening informed Orange County Public Schools of an individual connected to the school being diagnosed with monkeypox. Wedgefield School’s principal notified family and staff members who potentially could have had contact with the infected person and they were given a chance to talk with FDOH officials, according to a message sent to parents via Connect Orange. All families and staff members at the school were told early Wednesday, the district said.
The individual has not been on campus since Sept. 7 and will remain home until cleared to return, Orange County Public Schools said. All areas of the campus have been cleaned and sanitized, school officials said.
