    Bird flu detected in Pacific County

    The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA APHIS) announced on Friday that they have confirmed the detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) – also known as bird flu – in a non-commercial backyard flock in Pacific County.

      SPOKANE – In the last several days, the Washington State Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed two cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza – also known as bird flu - in backyard flocks on opposite sides of the state.

      The first 2022 case in Washington was confirmed on Thursday in a non-commercial backyard flock in Pacific County. A second case was confirmed on Saturday in a non-commercial backyard flock in Spokane County.

      The Spokane County case involves a flock that is a mix of about 75 geese, chickens, ducks and guinea fowl...

            OLYMPIA — Washington agriculture agents say an outbreak of avian influenza first seen in backyard chicken flocks May 4 has now been detected in Okanogan County, and they’re asking poultry farmers statewide not to take their birds to fairs and other agricultural exhibitions until the disease is quelled.

            The state Department of Agriculture says the highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 was confirmed Thursday to have infected an Okanogan County flock, as well as one in Whatcom County. They’re the latest confirmed cases since the initial detection in Pacific County last week, bringing the total known infection incidence to eight flocks in six counties...

                      KING COUNTY, WA — King County this week became Washington's eighth to record bird flu in backyard flocks amid a growing national outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 influenza. While the risk to humans is considered very low, public health officials said the virus is effective at infecting and killing domestic and wild birds, including chickens, turkeys, pheasants, quail and ducks.

                      Washington confirmed its first outbreak in early May, and infections have now been reported in eight counties, including King, Pierce and Thurston. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, King County confirmed a bird flu outbreak in a non-poultry flock of 180 on Tuesday. The CDC is aware of more than 350 such outbreaks impacting 35 states...

                            Bird flu reported in Snohomish County, local sanctuary takes precautions

                            MONROE, Wash. - The battle to contain the devastating bird flu in Washington continues. The Department of Agriculture (WSDA)says the disease has now been identified in Snohomish County, with infected birds turning up in a backyard flock near Monroe.

                            That's the ninth county to be identified as having a case or cases of Avian Influenza.


                            Pasado's Safe Haven is located in Snohomish County, not far from Monroe. Staff there are taking every precaution to keep their flocks of rescued birds from getting the disease.

                            The turkey flock has already been moved to a small barn in order to keep them safe...
