  • H5 & N1 detected in Vermont mallards

    The USDA is reporting detection of H5 and N1 in numerous live mallard ducks in Addison County, VT. Testing underway to specify the nature of the virus.

    How can they say "not related to HPAI H5N1, suspect LPAI" when testing is still underway?

    Do they cleavage amino acid positions show up on early tests, or are they making assumptions based on the fact the birds are still alive?

      Partial sequences can be generated directly from the samples.
