    More than 14,000 turkeys affected after Lehigh Valley farm tests positive for avian flu

    More than 14,000 turkeys from a Lehigh Valley poultry farm have been affected after a highly contagious avian flu was confirmed in the flock.

    A Lehigh County commercial turkey farm has recorded 14,500 birds affected by the highly pathogenic avian influenza, or HPAI, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s website, which tracks outbreaks across the U.S. The cases were confirmed Friday.

    The website does not include the name of the farm, nor its location. The Morning Call has reached out to the USDA and officials from the state Department of Agriculture for more information.

    Statewide, 21 commercial flocks and nine backyard flocks have tested positive, according to the USDA’s website. So far, more than 4 million birds have been affected...
