    LAPEER COUNTY — Following an investigation by the Michigan Dept. of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), the Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has detected the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a backyard poultry flock in Lapeer County. This is the first detection in Lapeer County.

    Kathy Haskins, director of the Lapeer County Health Dept., could not elaborate where the flock is located in the county due to privacy issues, and cautioned it’s possible there may be additional cases of HPAI in Lapeer County. “It there’s one confirmed flock, it’s possible it could be elsewhere too. It’s not real common for people to get it, but it’s possible so it’s important people take the necessary precautions (see protective measures later in story),” said Haskins...

        LAPEER COUNTY — Kathy Haskins, director of the Lapeer County Health Dept., on Friday reported that a second backyard poultry flock in Lapeer County has tested positive for the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

          SANILAC COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) — A lab with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Development has detected bird flu in a Sanilac County backyard flock of poultry.

          This is the first time that Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has been found in the county...

          ...The premises is currently being quarantined, and the birds were depopulated to prevent disease spread.

          According to MDARD, the flock had approximately 20 birds of mixed species...

            Bird owners encouraged to take steps to protect flocks from HPAI

            CASS COUNTY, Mich. – Bird owners are encouraged to take steps to protect their flocks after birds in Cass County tested positive for bird flu.

            Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been confirmed in a backyard flock from Cass County. This is the first case of HPAI in Cass County since the disease was first detected in Michigan in 2022.

            The area where the flock lived is under quarantine and the birds will be killed to prevent the disease from spreading. The flock included 60 birds of various species.​..

                MONTMORENCY COUNTY, MI – Bird flu has been detected in a Northern Michigan county for the first time.

                The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said Friday that highly pathogenic avian influenza has been detected in a backyard flock from Montmorency County.

                This is the first case of HPAI in Montmorency County since the disease was first detected in the state in 2022.​..
