Health forums to focus on Kansas reforms, pandemic prep

TOPEKA - The Kansas Public Health Association (KPHA), its member organizations and the American Public Health Association (APHA) will celebrate National Public Health Week, April 7-14.
This year KPHA has organized statewide Legislative Health Forums to help educate the public about two issues: health reform and pandemic preparedness for Kansans.
In Cowley County, the forum will be held at 4 p.m. April 17 at the Physicians Pavilion, 1306 Sixth Ave., Winfield. For more information, call 221-1430.
Many legislators will be in attendance and share a legislative update on health reform in Kansas. An opportunity to learn about the state's plan for a pandemic will also be presented by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Information about the nationwide "Get Ready" campaign and how individuals, families and organizations can plan for emergencies will be available. The forum will conclude with a question and answer session.
The forum is free and open to the public, and no registration is necessary. For more information or to request special accommodations, please contact (phone numbers) below during normal business hours. Requests for special accommodation must be made by close of business at least three days before the forum.
Since 1920, KPHA has created movements for all Kansans to be able to protect themselves and their community from preventable, serious health threats. KPHA accomplishes this by serving as the umbrella association for public health professionals from every sector of society and health-related disciplines. Today we represent almost 700 members from over 50 occupations and 130 organizations in all 105 counties of the state.
The forum is free and open to the public, and no registration is necessary.
