    Bird flu still spreading in Idaho

    BOISE, ID (CBS2 NEWS) — Avian influenza, more commonly known as bird flu continues to spread in Idaho.

    For that reason, officials say both domestic and commercial bird owners should take precautions to protect their flocks.

    "I wouldn't say Idaho is out of the danger zone [of bird flu]. Even in the last two weeks, there have been some new cases of avian influenza identified in Washington and Oregon. So we're along those fly zones too," said deputy state veterinarian Dr. Christie Hammons.

    Bird flu was last detected in Idaho back on May 24th. The USDA reports that 25 backyard flocks in Idaho have been infected. The total number of birds infected is 988. No commercial flocks have suffered losses. Dr. Hammons said summer has weakened the virus...
