      Montana wild turkeys first turkeys to die of avian flu in U.S.

      BOZEMAN, Mont. — Wild turkeys found dead in Montana are the first turkeys known in the United States to die of the avian flu.

      The dead turkeys were found near MSU Billings.

      The person who found the first turkey originally thought it had been hit by a car. After noticing another turkey dead in the same area, the next day, he called FWP.

      Game wardens then collected three of the dead birds and found they were positive for the highly pathogenic avian flu.

      “People need to be aware that it is in their neighborhoods, and that it is in birds, and it does affect all birds. So eventually, songbirds could even get it,” FWP information and education program manager Bob Gibson said...
