Fauci feeling fine after mild Covid illness - suffered a rebound of Covid-19 symptoms after taking full course of antiviral Paxlovid
Fauci says his COVID-19 recovery is an ‘example’ of vaccine protections

WASHINGTON — Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease expert, says his COVID-19 recovery is an “example” for the nation of the protection offered by vaccines and boosters.
Speaking during a White House briefing, Fauci, 81, said he began experiencing virus symptoms June 14 and tested positive a day later. The next day, he was prescribed the antiviral drug Paxlovid, which has proven to be highly effective at preventing serious illness and death from COVID-19 in high-risk patients.
“I’m still feeling really quite fine,” Fauci said Thursday, as the administration emphasized the protection offered by vaccines to people of all ages...

Anthony Fauci, the chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden, suffered a rebound of Covid-19 symptoms after taking Pfizer Inc.’s antiviral Paxlovid.
Despite being fully vaccinated and twice-boosted, Fauci contracted Covid earlier this month and was prescribed Paxlovid due to his age -- 81 -- which puts him at high risk of developing complications.
“After I finished the five days of Paxlovid, I reverted to negative on an antigen test for three days in a row,” Fauci said Tuesday during an event at Foreign Policy’s Global Health Forum. “And then on the fourth day, just to be absolutely certain, I tested myself again. I reverted back to positive.”
Scores of patients have reported the phenomenon, often called Covid rebound or Paxlovid rebound, of returning symptoms after taking a full course of Pfizer’s drug.
... However, Fauci said he started taking a second course of Paxlovid after experiencing symptoms “much worse than in the first go around.” ...
That's really bad news. I think of him as being extremely fit with excellent health habits - maybe 20 years younger in 'real age' than his chronological age. He does push himself too hard, though, according to an interview with his wife I read awhile back. He doesn't sleep much, so I hope someone with knowledge about using high does melatonin in Covid reaches out to the family if he doesn't turn around soon.
Scores of patients have reported the phenomenon, often called COVID rebound or Paxlovid rebound, of symptoms returning after a full course of Pfizer’s drug. While Pfizer Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla said in May that doctors could prescribe a second course of treatment to such patients, U.S. drug regulators have said there’s no evidence that a repeat will help.
However, Fauci said he started taking a second course of Paxlovid after experiencing symptoms “much worse than in the first go-around.” Now near completion of the five-day oral treatment, he said he was still enduring symptoms but felt “reasonably good.”...
