  • US - President comments on COVID-19 Omicron emergence in media event - November 29, 2021

No media notice given on this prepared media event (Fauci standing next to President) - unless we were dropped off the list again....

    President Biden:

    do not to panic,
    get vaccines and booster,
new vaccines are being developed if needed,
    reminding on vaccines again,
US plan for winter does not include shut downs or lockdowns,
    need to vaccinate the world,
US in better place in Dec. 2021 than Dec. 2020 because of vaccines,

Fauci briefly restates US entry policy.

    Biden:

everyone should wear masks indoors unless eating or speaking at microphone,
    urges vaccines and boosters again,
lockdowns off the table for now,
travel restrictions in place to give everyone a chance to get vaccines.

    The end.

When Biden was running for President, he said he would not impose mandates and he has done so. At the beginning of the pandemic, Fauci said masks do not work and later admitted that he said that because the government wanted to stockpile N-95 masks for health care workers, etc.

So if you feel you need N-95 masks or other protective gear for COVID protection or for protection from environmental job site hazards, this may be a good time to replenish your inventory.

Fauci is saying they require 2 weeks to determine the projected impact of Omicron. Seems a long time to me since work has been done along those lines already.

By combining plasma-selected spike substitutions, we generated synthetic ‘polymutant’ spike protein pseudotypes that resisted polyclonal antibody neutralization to a similar degree as circulating variants of concern. By aggregating variant of concern-associated and antibody-selected spike substitutions into a single polymutant spike protein, we show that 20 naturally occurring mutations in the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein are sufficient to generate pseudotypes with near-complete resistance to the polyclonal neutralizing antibodies generated by individuals who are convalescent or recipients who received an mRNA vaccine. However, plasma from individuals who had been infected and subsequently received mRNA vaccination neutralized pseudotypes bearing this highly resistant SARS-CoV-2 polymutant spike, or diverse sarbecovirus spike proteins.
I'm not taking any action based on that research myself since that created pseudo-virus is not the same as the real Omicron variant, but apparently that work is the basis of CDC advice to boost natural immunity with one dose of mRNA vaccine. My point is that it should not be difficult to repeat the methodology of that experiment with Omicron. Has it been done already and the 2 weeks are being used for government preparations while keeping us in the dark?

President Biden will update the nation on his administration’s response to the Omicron variant of COVID-19 on Monday, hours after travel restrictions targeting eight countries in southern Africa went into effect.

The president is scheduled to give remarks at 11:45 a.m. following a briefing with the White House pandemic response team, including chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci.

I should have been clearer in my message. There was no advance notice to media with a time and place mentioned or any call-in number. Usually an email is sent with details of a media event. For instance, I always like to hear Helen Branswell's question over the phone.
