    "Test positivity rates within our community have jumped significantly and we are seeing more and more COVID-19 variants, specifically the B.1.1.7 UK variant, in our community as well. And while we're certainly happy that the vaccine is becoming more widely available, we know that taking these difficult steps, like restricting visitation, is still necessary to help keep everyone safe."

    As of Tuesday, Gilpin said, there were 356 COVID-19 inpatients at all Beaumont Health locations, including 301 who tested positive and another 50 who were suspected to be positive and had tests pending at that time.

    "This is nearly tripled from around a month ago, on Feb. 22, when we had 129 COVID inpatients within our facilities," he said. "So you can see that's a pretty staggering increase in a relatively short amount of time."
