FluTrackers withdraws from Twitter - September 16, 2020 - Updated Nov. 2024
It appears traffic to us from twitter is unimpeded. So for now I will continue to tweet the site. They are using us, so we will use them right back. Mike Coston says he found our H5N6 post about the new case yesterday on page one this morning. By the time I check we were down the line somewhere.....who knows where....not anywhere near page one. So apparently google search engine indexing runs in cycles?
Anyway....
We have received many favorable comments for returning:

Please stick around! I first found out about COVID from you - before anyone knew it was a virus, before anyone knew it was a coronavirus, and before it was called COVID. You were the first to report on both Ebola outbreaks and MERS-CoV as well!

Mr. Musk fired Chief Executive Parag Agrawal and Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal after the deal closed, the people said. Spokespeople for Twitter didn’t comment.
It wasn’t immediately clear who would step into those top positions. CNBC previously reported the firings.
In one of his first acts as the newly minted owner of Twitter, Elon Musk is expected to reinstate users who have received lifetime bans.
... will do away with the bans because he does not believe that anyone should be removed from the site for life, a source told Bloomberg News.
A self-described “free speech absolutist,” he previously said he is looking to give users a “timeout” rather than a lifelong ban.
The end of the practice could see the return of some of the top-followed accounts. Below, we take a look at some of the banned users who might get a second chance on the site.
Donald Trump
Former President Donald Trump was booted from Twitter and other large social media platforms after the events at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Marjorie Taylor Greene
Twitter permanently booted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from the social media platform in January, saying she had repeatedly violated its policies by posting misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic.
Steve Bannon
Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was booted from Twitter in November 2020 after he suggested that Dr. Anthony Fauci and FBI Director Christopher Wray should be beheaded.
Milo Yiannopoulos
In 2016, Twitter announced it had moved to permanently suspend a number of user accounts, including that of Breitbart tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos, for abuse of comedian Leslie Jones.
Azealia Banks
Scandal-scarred rapper Azealia Banks was slapped with a Twitter ban in 2016 after years of public feuds and hurling slurs.
Roger Stone
Roger Stone, a right-wing firebrand and friend of President Donald Trump, was kicked off Twitter in 2017.
Stone went on a profanity-laced, multi-post rant against CNN anchors Don Lemon and Jake Tapper, the Washington Post’s Carl Bernstein, the Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol, and other journalists and commentators.
Lin Wood
L. Lin Wood, the lawyer for Kenosha killer Kyle Rittenhouse, fumed that he was “going to take Jack Dorsey’s ass down” after Twitter banned him from the platform in 2020 as he tried to raise money for his client.
... Alex Jones (@RealAlexJones): The controversial radio host who regularly shared conspiracy theories, calls for violence and hate speech was banned back in 2018 after violating Twitter’s abusive behavior policy.
... Aubrey Huff (@aubrey_huff): The former San Francisco Giants baseball star was banned from Twitter in August last year after he repeatedly shared misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines and suggested the shots can make people sicker.
... Martin Shkreli (@MartinShkreli): The former hedge funder and “Pharma Bro,” who served jail time for committing securities fraud, was permanently bannedback in May 2017 after he tried to skirt a temporary ban—which he received for harassing a journalist—by setting up an alternate account.
... George Zimmerman (@TherealGeorgeZ): The Florida man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed Black teenager, in 2012 was banned back in December 2015 for breaking the platform’s rules on revenge porn after he posted semi-nude photos of his ex-girlfriend and used a racial slur.
Several other controversial figures like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Alex Jones and Martin Shkreli could return to the platform if Musk decides to reverse all lifetime bans.
Musk got moderated. I was repulsed and frightened when Twitter was a hate forum against people who weren't Covid vaccinated, etc. I have to stand against laughing at elderly men being beaten with hammers, too. One evil doesn't make another right.
Hopefully we can get Musk to stop torturing monkeys, too.

I should clarify that I do understand why Musk got angry about HRC politically using an elderly man's brutal beating. Just calling that out as cynically despicable would be the better way to respond, IMO.

If Musk can achieve a broad spectrum platform, it will be a miracle. It really won't be his fault if he can't.
He will have to start with a few basic rules or the site will devolve further into an internet flame war.

Yes, this will destroy the bots. If a paid Blue account engages in spam/scam, that account will be suspended.
Essentially, this raises the cost of crime on Twitter by several orders of magnitude.
