  • Discussion: A group of doctors hold a summit in Washington D.C. called White Coat Summit to apparently promote hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19

As I routinely post US CDC information and sponsored research, I feel free to post the "alternative" information below. I have no idea if the doctors and professionals in the following media are correct, or not.

We are a discussion forum and do not advocate for any of the 1000s of the studies posted on this site.

We are offering this topic for discussion. We are not a political site.

There is apparently a group of doctors who believe that there is a hydroxychloroquine drug combination that is effective against COVID-19.

Five minutes with a doctor-lawyer. Conventional wisdom debunked.

adding this link to news conference outside Supreme Court:

The you tube link directly above was removed for violating you tube community standards. I did not see any violence, sex, profanity. It was a press conference. So....?

Here is the website of these doctors and their summit information:

While Breitbart is not a source that I use or a media that I visit, they have the press conference video which was censored by facebook, twitter, and you tube today:

As usual - use at least 2 sources for information and use your common sense.

The President has retweeted about a dozen tweets in the past 24 hrs from the twitter hashtag hydroxychloroquine advocating its use as a therapy. This seems an ineffective way for the President to try to shape actual policy, but seems to be an effective way to sow doubt and confusion among those who are prone to conspiracy theories. I call political BS.

I really don't care what the President tweets about. I especially don't care what his medical opinion is. I never look at his account.

If we can carry vaccine and other drugs creation attempts for the last 14 years (and many fail) we can have a discussion about hydroxychloroquine. This is a common drug in use for over 30 years and I believe it is on the WHO list of essential drugs. I did not see any political controversy about the use of dexamethasone for COVID-19. It makes sense to investigate drugs already in widespread use.

In a perfect world - a common and inexpensive drug that is readily available would be effective against COVID-19 - benefiting billions of people.

Political viewpoints/politicians are not relevant in considering various treatments/drugs/therapies for any disease.

I had a serious medical issue a couple of years ago and I did not ask any politician what their opinion was. I researched the situation extensively. I interviewed practicing doctors who were experts in their disciplines. I made a decision. That's it.

Of course, this is what people do.

Not just the president, but also presidential political allies in the past 24 hours. When you see a concerted political attempt to push a therapy that the medical community has tested and found ineffective, you have to ask why. In my opinion, the doctor in question is a frequent right wing contributor, has stood against mask mandates, has pushed to end shutdown measures, and is now pushing hydroxychloroquine. If politics is behind the push, then the tweets of certain politicians and their allies become relevant. I'm certainly not trying to quell your discussion of this drug as a therapy, just as I'm sure that you are not trying to dismiss my opinion that this is political disinformation. I believe that this is an attempt to shift blame for our coronavirus failure and 150,000 deaths from the president to the medical community due to November's election.

They are obviously biased. That might be legal - I don't know enough about free speech law vs private web sites to judge that. "Rigano and his associate James Todaro have rapidly gained attention for their paper on chloroquine, self-published on Google Docs, which they claim to have written “in consultation with Stanford University School of Medicine, UAB School of Medicine and National Academy of Sciences researchers.”

Stanford University School of Medicine and the University of Alabama, Birmingham, School of Medicine told HuffPost that no one from their institutions was directly involved in Rigano and Todaro’s paper. The National Academy of Sciences was also not aware of any connection between Rigano or Todaro and the organization, according to a spokesperson. One UAB researcher requested that his name be removed from the paper after he was initially listed as an author and denied he had any knowledge of it or any part in its creation, he told Wired magazine in a Thursday profile of Rigano and Todaro."

Rigano and Todaro are linked with Didier Roult who made the first claims about hydroxychloroquine. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/12/m...loroquine.html

Roult's conclusions have been widely criticized as not supported by his data. "According to a statement issued April 3 by the International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ISAC), the vanguard study cited by Trump and others in their endorsement of hydroxychloroquine “does not meet the Society’s expected standard, especially relating to the lack of better explanations of the inclusion criteria and the triage of patients to ensure patient safety.” "
