    latest suspected case is in shenzhen
    2020-01-17 08:53 Shenzhen Daily
    AN average of 663,000 people were cleared for entry and exit at the land, rail, air and sea ports of Shenzhen every day in 2019, the city’s immigration office said.

    The city handled 242 million passengers last year, accounting for 36 percent of China’s total.

    Gou Gaorong, deputy administrator of Shenzhen’s immigration authority, said 544 self-service checkpoints for passengers and 102 fast passes for vehicles were put into use last year, which accounted for more than 66 percent of the total clearance channels. The percentage of self-service clearance was elevated over 70 percent. (Xinhua)

       ...Chinese authorities seem to be nervous about information management as well as stopping the spread of the infection. When NHK International Broadcasting reported the news about new pneumonia on the night of the 17th, the screen suddenly went black and the broadcast was interrupted for several minutes....https://www.sankei.com/world/news/20...180018-n1.html

        can't have those rumors floating around!

        "SARS has not disappeared, but has been parasitic in bats?" Official rumors!

        01-18 21:52Wuhan mysterious disease is a new SARS virus?

        Wuhan pneumonia and SARS are as similar as 90%?

        SARS has been parasitic in bats?

        Just now, China CDC

        For Wuhan Viral Pneumonia

        Five big rumors to dispel rumors!

        Rumor One

        Mysterious disease outbreak in Wuhan has been confirmed as a new SARS virus

        In response, the China CDC stated that the pathogen causing Wuhan's "mysterious virus" was identified as a new type of coronavirus, not a SARS virus.

        Rumor Two

        Wuhan new virus is 73% similar to SARS, Wuhan new coronavirus gene sequence is 80% similar to SARS virus; Wuhan pneumonia and SARS are up to 90% similar.

        The Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that the similarity of the virus genes cannot be equated with the similar pathogenicity of the virus. Although the new coronavirus and SARS and MERS coronaviruses both belong to the same family of coronaviruses, genetic evolution analysis showed that they It belongs to different subgroup branches, it is not SARS or MERS virus, and their viral gene sequences are quite different.

        Rumor Three

        There have been several cases in our hospital and they have been closely isolated. Very scary, it is said that 80% is SARS.

        The China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that coronaviruses are very common in nature and are divided into many types. The damage caused by them is also very different. The pathogen that caused the viral pneumonia in Wuhan is a new coronavirus, which is different from SARS virus. Isolation and treatment of infectious disease patients is a requirement of the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases", which is responsible for both the patient and the public health. As of the early morning of January 18, a total of 45 cases have been reported, all in Wuhan. City designated hospital isolation treatment.

        Rumor Four

        SARS has not disappeared and has been parasitic in bats

        According to the China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a SARS epidemic broke out in China from 2002 to 2003. No cases of SARS have been found in China for nearly a decade, and no human SARS coronavirus has been detected in bats.

        Rumor Five

        Wuhan pneumonia virus is a long-standing SARS corona virus

        The China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that the "Corona virus" circulated online was transliterated from coronavirus (coronavirus), and the pathogen that caused the viral pneumonia in Wuhan was a new coronavirus, not a SARS virus. Current investigations have shown that the virus's human-to-human transmission capacity and pathogenicity are weaker than SARS.

          ...
          On Wednesday (January 15), "Voice of Germany" quoted Berlin virus research expert Christian Drosten, saying that the new virus that recently caused "unknown pneumonia" in China is a SARS virus , similar to 2002/03 the virus when SARS broke out. Drosten is the director of the Institute of Virology at Charit? Berlin, the largest university-affiliated teaching hospital in Europe.

          Drosten pointed out that the new virus and SARS virus are "the same virus, but the morphology is different." The main difference is that the virus has different proteins attached to human cells.
          ...
          The SARS virus is susceptible to mutation during transmission, and the mutation speed is very fast. When the SARS outbreak occurred in 2003, it was difficult for the medical profession to prevent and control the virus because of the constantly changing form of the virus, and it was also very difficult to develop a corresponding vaccine.

          Professor Yuan Guoyong, Chair Professor of Infectious Diseases of the University of Hong Kong, pointed out that the illness, severity, and mortality of the new virus in Wuhan can be used as a reference for SARS in 2003. He said that SARS also experienced a rapid mutation of the virus that year, followed by a large-scale "super spread" process.

          The mysterious lung disease that is circulating in China is apparently caused by a SARS virus, according to a German physician. It belongs to the strain of Corona virus. What is known about SARS? DW takes a look.

          According to the Berlin-based virus researcher Christian Drosten, the pathogen that has been circulating in Wuhan, China, since the turn of the year is a SARS virus similar to the one that caused a pandemic in 2002. "It is the same type of virus, only in a different variant," the director of the Institute of Virology at the Charit? in Berlin told dpa.

          The differences are mainly in the proteins with which the virus attaches to human cells. During the Sars pandemic, which originated in China, around 8000 cases were recorded worldwide, killing more than 800 people.

            This newspaper received two independent news, both pointing out that a suspected case of a new coronavirus has occurred in Shenzhen, and some patients are being tested. One of them said that the patient was being treated in isolation at Shenzhen Third People's Hospital.

            A reporter from this newspaper went to the above hospital this afternoon (18th) and found that the hospital is waiting for it. At about 4.30 am, the reporter was near the infectious disease building of the hospital. A staff member was wearing a white protective clothing and a face mask from head to toe. There was an elder wearing a mask and crutches behind him. Infectious disease building.

            When the elders came upstairs, another staff member wearing full protective equipment and a face mask immediately outside the building's elevator lobby, pulled up the blockade line with ice cream cones and tape. After entering the elevator lobby for disinfection, the blockade line was lifted for about 5 minutes. It is said to be used to isolate the "Infection 3 Division" on the 4th floor of the Infectious Diseases Building, which is used to isolate related patients in Wuhan. The entrance is a nurse station.

            The CHP responded that it had not received any notification from the National Health Commission so far. The center will continue to maintain contact with the National Health Commission and the World Health Organization to closely monitor the situation.

              As the number of new cases continues to rise, locals say authorities are cracking down on people who post online information on the virus or sick relatives.

              Earlier this month, state media said eight people had been “dealt with according to law” in cases related to sharing information about the virus on social media.
              Two people told Reuters they had been ordered by police to remove social media posts. They declined to share their names.

If this was an animal spillover event, perhaps with limited H2H transmission, 3 separate exportations is way too many for only 45 local confirmed cases, even if the virus is widespread in animals or the food supply. By comparison, Toronto had about 250 confirmed SARS cases in 2003, and exported exactly one case out of Canada (to the USA). If this virus is widespread in Wuhan, why hasn't Hong Kong picked up a single importation? If this virus happens to be simply a previously unknown component of the seasonal respiratory pathogens (which remains possible), why has no one detected it anywhere else in the past few days, nor in any retroactive samples anywhere in the world? If instead this virus is spreading H2H fast enough to cause an epidemic or pandemic, why has no HCW been infected yet?

                The facts don't add up at this point, and I'm not sure what additional information would fix it.

                I've got one other thought...what if this virus isn't the cause of the severe disease? What if this virus is widespread and only as severe as the human coronaviruses that case colds, and some other co-infectious agent (viral or not) is responsible for the severe illness? Both fatal cases have been in the type of individuals that you wouldn't be surprised if they did of seasonal flu; one had cancer and the other had advanced TB.
                China announced 17 more infections in Wuhan today, bringing this ratio a bit closer to reasonable balance.

                I've had two additional thoughts...the case in Japan was a Chinese person who lived in Japan who specifically went to Wuhan to visit an ill family member. That's not a random person in Wuhan, and probably shouldn't be considered when estimating the number of true infections in Wuhan. Secondly, as a counterexample, in 2008 in Zambia, a new virus later named as Lujo infected two people who were in contact with each other. BOTH CASES were exported to South Africa (medically evacuated, in this case) causing an international outbreak. It's entirely possible to have an abnormally large number of exported cases for a small local outbreak if something is biasing cases toward those more likely to commit international travel.

                Do I believe that there are only 62 cases total in China right now? No. Do I believe the estimate that there are 1700-4000 cases? No. I'd say the first number is probably closer to right than the second number, but until we know where these infections are coming from, it's impossible to know for sure. I'd still like to see more random testing for this virus outside Wuhan. For example, test anyone hospitalized in Beijing with pneumonia and see if this virus turns up at all. Maybe test any samples of undiagnosed respiratory illness from 2019 (from anywhere in the world?) and see if this turns up as well.

                  According to the notification issued by the Wuhan Health Commission on the 17th, on January 16, 2020, provincial and municipal experts based on the clinical manifestations, epidemiological history of patients, and the results detected by the diagnostic kit issued by the country, newly identified a new type of coronary Four cases of virally infected pneumonia.

                  下午 In the afternoon of January 17, our hospital quickly held a new deployment plan for prevention and control of new coronavirus infectious pneumonia and pneumonia of unknown cause. The dean presided over the meeting, and all the departments such as the hospital's sensory department, disease control department, pharmacy department, medical department, and nursing department attended the meeting.

                  At the meeting, the dean introduced the current form of pneumococcal infection with new-type coronavirus, and conveyed the spirit of the state to do a good job of video conferencing for the prevention and control of current pneumococcal pneumonia. The division of labor was carried out, and the online report of pneumonia of unknown cause was emphasized. The Chief of the Sensing Section of the hospital introduced the early identification and diagnosis and treatment of new coronavirus-infected pneumonia, and the Chief of the Sensing and Control Section put forward specific requirements for sensing and control.

                  The director of the Department of Sense of the Hospital said that the definition of unexplained pneumonia cases should be strengthened.

                  1. Unexplained pneumonia cases

                  At the same time have the following 4 cases of pneumonia that cannot be clearly diagnosed as other diseases:

                  (1) fever (underarm temperature ≥38 ? C);

                  (2) has the imaging characteristics of pneumonia;

                  (3) The total number of white blood cells is reduced or normal in the early stage of onset, or the lymphocyte differential count is reduced;

                  (4) After treatment with standard antibacterial drugs for 3-5 days, there is no obvious improvement or progressive worsening.

                  2. Cases of aggregated unexplained pneumonia

                  流行 Epidemiology-associated 2 or more cases of unexplained pneumonia occurred within two weeks.

                  The director of the Department of Sense of the Hospital said that if unexplained pneumonia is found, the hospital should strengthen clinical triage to quickly find and report cases of unexplained pneumonia, and isolate and observe and treat suspected or confirmed cases. Hospitals and public health places should be adequately ventilated and cleaned, and a sustainable infection prevention and control infrastructure should be established. When diagnosing and treating related cases that may or may be diagnosed, appropriate protective measures should be taken to further reduce the risk of transmission.

                  The president finally emphasized that the hospital is required to attach great importance to the prevention and control of pneumonitis associated with new coronavirus infection, fully understand the potential risks of the virus, improve the ability to identify and standardize the treatment of new coronavirus infection pneumonia, and perform disease monitoring, disinfection, Infectious disease investigation and reporting, early detection, early reporting, early diagnosis, and early treatment are achieved, and all efforts are made to prevent and control the disease and protect the health of the people!

                  如何 How to prevent unexplained pneumonia in daily life?

                  At present, it is in the season of high incidence of infectious diseases in winter and spring.

                  1. The public must maintain indoor air circulation;

                  2. Try to avoid closed and airless public places and crowded places.

                  3. Wear a mask when necessary.

                  If you have fever, respiratory infection symptoms, especially persistent fever, you should go to a medical institution in time.

                  For the "new type of coronavirus pneumonia", the protective measures that people can take are as follows:

                  1. Keep a distance from wild animals. Refuse to eat wild animals! Refuse to raise wild animals! Do not use alien species as pets.

                  2. Give up or manage your pet. It is best to give up the habit of keeping pets. Secondly, do not keep close contact with pets such as cats and dogs, manage their pets well, and prevent pet wastes from polluting the public environment!

                  3. Stay away from animal trading markets. If you must go to the market, you must wear a mask. Don't touch any animals without buying.

                  4. Buy meat that has been quarantined by the state. Do not buy live animals such as live birds and rabbits for food. Separate raw and cooked food at home, and ensure that all meat is cooked.

                        For those who are not familiar with China media policy, the above report risks the freedom of the reporter and editor. It is against the law to make false statements and perpetuate rumors. The above media must believe that there is some truth to the 2019-nCov rumor in Shanghai. They are risking their future if they are wrong.

Maheshwari's husband, Khowal, quoted the doctor as saying that his wife is currently in a coma and is in a coma, and needs to rely on a ventilator and other systems to survive.

                          In response, some patients have not been to the South China Seafood Wholesale Market, which is considered the source of the virus. The National Health Commission issued a notice of prevention and control to medical institutions across the country. When they received fever patients, they had to ask them if they had been to Wuhan within two weeks. The health and health committee also pointed out that, after research and judgment by experts, no new type of coronavirus transmission source has been found, the epidemic transmission route has not been fully grasped, and the virus mutation still needs to be closely mon
