  • Psychological Considerations- Information Needs- Public Health and Support Roles

Summary of Public Health roels and responsibilities in workforce support.

Specifically identifies, separately, psychological issues for response workers/ families of response workers/ impact of pandemic influenza on healthcare workers. Reviews occupational stresses specific to pandemic and makes recommendations for support materials, including: educating employees about emotional responses/ developing family communication plans/ signs of stress/ traumatic grief/ strategies for building and sustaining resilience/ strategies for helping children. Recommendations include: stress control/ resilience teams/ rest and recuperation sites/ confidential telephone support lines/ servcies for families of responders/ need to deal with stigmatization and discrimination (due to illness)/ stress reducing activities.
I am wondering whether communiteis are addressing these issues specific to a pandemic.

Santa Clara County in California has a 642 page plan that includes most of the psychological supports described above. I am having trouble finding a direct link. I saw through a link from the San Jose Mercury News that is no longer connected. I know Houston Texas and San Antonio Texas have draft plans through their health departments. I will try to find out if they on web sites.
