Paraná declares a state of H3N2 epidemic and reinforces the importance of vaccination
    Created on Thursday, 13 January 2022 07:27

saude VI 13 01 2022The Secretary of State for Health, Beto Preto, announced, on the morning of this Wednesday (12/01), that Paraná is in a state of Influenza flu epidemic. The increase in the number of daily cases of H3N2 (a type of Influenza A virus) and deaths from the disease led to this decision.

Measure - The measure is necessary considering community transmission and the presence of the virus in 144 municipalities in the state. Now, 832 cases – 805 of which are residents of Paraná and 27 from outside the state – and 12 deaths are confirmed. Data were collected until this Tuesday (11) through the Laboratory Environment Manager (GAL).

Major - “This number of cases and deaths is the record we got from the epidemiological investigation after the detection of the disease by the sentinel units, which certainly does not represent the reality of the disease in the state. We estimate that this number of confirmations is at least 20 times greater”, said the secretary.

Transmission - The transmission of Influenza viruses, for the most part, occurs during the coldest periods, in winter. Now, the state is experiencing an atypical situation of case confirmations during the summer, considerably increasing the demand for medical care in all regions.

Festivities - According to Beto Preto, the transmission of the virus accelerated during the end-of-year festivities. “We had a large number of family gatherings for Christmas and New Year, in addition to many people on the coast of the state. As a result, the transmission of the disease intensified. We need to continue with care, with the use of masks, alcohol gel, hand washing and distancing when possible,” he said.

Deaths - The deaths refer to six women and six men, with ages ranging from 44 to 83 years. The deaths occurred between December 11, 2021 and January 10, 2022. Eleven had some form of comorbidity and one case remains under investigation. Six had not taken the Influenza vaccine and one remains under investigation.

Municipalities - Those who died were residents of Arapongas (1), Curitiba (2), Foz do Iguaçu (1), Londrina (2), Mandaguaçu (1), Maringá (1), Marumbi (1), Paranaguá (2) and Tapira (1).

Vaccine - More than 616 thousand doses of vaccines against Influenza are in the municipalities. They are part of the 2021 National Influenza Immunization Campaign and have important validity at this time of outbreak of cases. According to data from the national vaccinometer, Paraná has about 70.40% coverage within the priority groups, with 2.1 million doses applied.

Nova - The Ministry of Health foresees for the beginning of April the sending of a new vaccine with the immunization for all circulating viruses and already recognized in the laboratory.

Protection - “Wherever there is a vaccine, it should be applied because it protects against most circulating viruses. This helps in the differential diagnosis of Respiratory Syndromes. We count on the collaboration of the municipalities to bring these existing doses to zero. This new vaccine should already come with protection against the Darwin strain of H3N2 and, in the coming months, we should receive this new immunizing agent”, explained the secretary.

Epidemic - Epidemic is the collective manifestation of a disease that quickly spreads, by direct or indirect contagion, until reaching a large number of people in a given territory and extinguishes after a period. There were not records of so many cases in this period since the beginning of monitoring of Influenza A (H3) cases by Sesa in 2016.

Efforts - “All efforts are being made to contain the outbreak of the disease, including sending the antiviral drug for treatment, oseltamivir phosphate, known as Tamiflu, to the Health Regionals”, said the director of Health Care and Surveillance, Maria Goretti David Lopes.

Remedy - Last week Sesa decentralized 460,000 Tamiflu capsules and has already filed a new request with the Ministry of Health, for over 100,000 units. The drug is effective against the worsening of the clinical picture, reducing the risk of death or the severity of symptoms in the patient.

Effectiveness - "If administered within 48 hours after infection by the virus, the drug is highly effective in worsening the disease and also in reducing hospitalizations", added Beto Preto.

Data - The data released this Wednesday (12/01) were extracted from the Laboratory Environment Manager (GAL), fed by laboratories throughout the State, both from the Unified Health System (SUS) and from the private sector.

Survey - Information from the Influenza and other respiratory viruses bulletin in Paraná, published on the Secretariat's website, is collected through the Sentinel Surveillance of Influenza Syndrome (SG) and the Universal Surveillance of hospitalized cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), an

The Health Surveillance Foundation of Amazonas – Dr. Rosemary Costa Pinto (FVS-RCP) updates, on Friday (01/07), the epidemiological scenario of Influenza in the State. 1,203 cases of Influenza A were identified.

Of the 1,203 cases of Influenza A, 84% (1,007) are of the H3N2 lineage. The Influenza epidemiological bulletin highlights that the highest occurrence of Influenza A cases (385 cases) was recorded between December 12 and 18, 2021, with a reduction in the following weeks.

The total number of cases was confirmed from the processing of 11,121 samples by the Central Laboratory of Public Health of Amazonas (Lacen-AM), coordinated by the FVS-RCP. The samples were analyzed for the detection of Influenza and other respiratory viruses, by the RT-PCR method, and they come from health units in Amazonas.

The director-president of FVS-RCP, Tatyana Amorim, highlights the importance of people maintaining non-pharmacological prevention measures, as a way to stop the transmission of respiratory viruses.

“The Amazon is in the seasonal period for respiratory viruses until May. There was an increase in cases, hospitalizations and deaths from Influenza A, type H3N2. That’s why it’s so important for people to take precautions,” she says.

According to the bulletin, 55% of confirmed cases of Influenza A occurred in women. “It was also observed a higher frequency of the disease in adults aged between 20 and 59 years, representing 63% of cases. Another prominent age group is 10 to 19 years old, which represents 16% of patients”, emphasizes Leíse Fernandes, advisor to the Health Situation Analysis Room of Amazonas, at FVS-RCP, the sector responsible for producing the bulletin.

Also according to the epidemiological bulletin of Influenza in Amazonas, the municipalities in the state that most had cases of Influenza A are: Manaus (945), Tefé (112), Manicoré (23), Manacapuru (14), São Paulo de Olivença (10) , Jutaí (9), Rio Preto da Eva (7), Iranduba (6), Careiro (5) and Itacoatiara (5). In addition to 33 cases of people from other states.

The majority (63%) of patients with Influenza A live in Manaus, but patients with the infection were also registered in the interior of Amazonas (19%) and other states (3%).

Between the months of November 2021 and January 2022, there were 84 hospitalizations for Influenza A, 69% (58) for Influenza A (H3N2). Among the most frequent signs and symptoms of severe cases of the disease reported are: cough, fever, shortness of breath, respiratory discomfort, oxygen saturation below 95%, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting and nasal congestion.

Seven deaths from Influenza A (H3N2) were also recorded. There were six people from Manaus and one from São Gabriel da Cachoeira. Four of the seven deaths occurred between December 19 and 25, 2021. And 71% of the cases had at least one risk factor, such as hypertension and diabetes.

Pará has 154 confirmed cases of H3N2 and almost a thousand hospitalizations for respiratory syndromes
    Writing by Writing
    - January 6, 2022

In 2021, the state had recorded 248 deaths from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Period until March is considered seasonal for flu cases.

Pará has 154 confirmed cases of H3N2 so far, according to information from the State Department of Health (Sespa) released this Thursday (6). The agency explains that the analysis of cases is done on a sample basis, not a diagnosis, but an assessment of the weekly epidemiological scenario. Also according to Sespa, no cases of H1N1 were registered in 2021 and in the first days of 2022.

The Municipal Health Department of Belém gave the first alert about an outbreak of flu in the capital on December 15, 2021, when it found that the health units were overcrowded.

Sespa later confirmed the H3N2 outbreak, as there was no record of the virus circulating in the state, and with the occurrence of a single case, according to the Epidemiological Surveillance, it became considered an outbreak.

After the first record of double infection by the flu and Covid-19 viruses in Brazil, attention in Pará was redoubled, since the period from November to March are considered seasonal for cases of flu. According to Sespa, for the time being there are no records of double infection in Pará.

    Respiratory syndrome cases and deaths

Between November and December 2021 alone, approximately one thousand hospitalizations related to severe acute respiratory syndromes were observed in Pará.

In 2021, Pará recorded 248 deaths from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), with three deaths in November and December.

In the city of Cametá, northeast of Pará, there are cases being investigated, but the Health Department did not say how many, only that so far there are four suspected cases of febrile hemorrhagic disease that are under laboratory and epidemiological investigation. There is no confirmation that it is H3N2 or Covid-19.

Pharmacy chains run out of flu drugs

The Regional Pharmacy Council (CRF-PA) confirmed that the supply of some items related to the treatment of flu and colds, such as anti-flu, syrups, vitamins and supplements, “is intermittent, with sporadic shortages in some pharmacy chains and other health establishments. , both in Belém and in other cities”. The problem was discovered in December.

The director of the CRF, Simone Sena, says that it is a worrying scenario, but that there are other alternatives in the absence of a particular drug.

“There are alternatives and different brands of the same active ingredient, so sometimes the lack of a specific brand does not directly interfere with the lack of a compound that helps in the treatment”, she says.

She does not believe that there will be a shortage of medicine on the market. “Precisely because of the variety of pharmaceutical manufacturers that produce the same type of drug, including the option of generics”.

Simone also warns about self-medication care, seeking information from a doctor or pharmacist:

“It is essential that the population, when looking for a drug in pharmacies, talk to the pharmacist, who is the health professional trained to provide all information about treatments for flu, colds and other mild-symptom diseases, as well as advise on treatments. alternatives in the absence of any specific medication. It is the pharmacist who will guide the patient about the conscious use of this medicine, avoiding unbridled and irrational use”.

Pará awaits arrival of new flu vaccines

This week, the City Hall of Belém reported that, after the high demand for flu vaccines, the stock of immunizations is “practically zero”.

Both the capital and the State requested more immunizations from the Ministry of Health, but there is still no forecast of the arrival of new vaccines. Vaccination against Covid-19 follows normally.

In 2021, Pará received 2,660,833 doses of immunizing agent against Influenza, within the annual campaign against influenza, which has priority groups for vaccination.

According to Sespa, with the low demand for the vaccine, it was recommended to offer it to the population outside the target audience until stocks last. In Belém, more than 500 thousand people were vaccinated, according to data from the Municipal Health Department.

Pará investigates whether deaths from hemorrhage are related to H3N2
    Luciana Cavalcante
    Collaboration for UOL, in Belém
    01/05/2022 17:48

The Pará Health Department is investigating the deaths of eight people from hemorrhage who also had flu-like symptoms, which occurred in December 2021, at the Regional Hospital of Cametá, a city in the northeast region of the state. The folder seeks to know if there is any relationship between the deaths and the H3N2 outbreak that affects the municipality.

Samples of patients, aged between 18 and 35 years, are being analyzed at Lacen (Central Laboratory) and at the Instituto Evandro Chagas, linked to the state government, in Belém. Sespa (Secretariat of Health of Pará) did not inform the deadline for dissemination of exam results.

Flu and Covid saturate the health system and 265 patients wait for beds: 'we fight bleeding with a band-aid', says infectious disease specialist
This Tuesday's information (4) is in a panel with data from the public network. There are 143 active ICU requests and 122 ward requests. State infectious disease specialists and the Physicians Union report drama.

The flu epidemic associated with the Covid-19 pandemic is causing saturation in Pernambuco's public health network. According to data from Monday (3) released this Tuesday (4), there were 265 people with serious respiratory diseases waiting for ICU and ward vacancies (see video above).

The information is on a public panel that presents data from beds in the public network for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Srag) in the state.

According to data from this Tuesday's panel, the number of active requests for ICU beds in Pernambuco was 143, with 138 adults and five children. There were also 122 requests for vacancies in wards, 115 for adults and seven for children.

According to the infectologist, the active request for beds means that a vacancy was requested, but the patient had not been covered by the bed until the registration.

The lack of vacancies became greater at the end of December 2021. On the 30th, the number of active requests for ICU beds for severe respiratory diseases stood at 160.

Infectologist Felipe Prohaska, from the team at the Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital (Huoc), in Recife, reported that a patient who was admitted to the João Murilo Hospital, in Vitória de Santo Antão, in the Zona da Mata, received from the bed regulation center, in the second (3), the card number 162.

The challenge for health professionals and authorities is getting worse every day. Also on December 30, 2021, the state secretary of health, André Longo, stated that the state was experiencing an “H3N2 epidemic within the Covid-19 pandemic”.

On Monday, the government changed the care protocol and said that anyone who has a negative test for Covid-19 is advised to seek a doctor and spend seven days at home.

Until the second, according to the State Health Department (SES), 5,253 cases of influenza had been recorded, with 30 deaths.

State of Rio de Janeiro has 56 deaths caused by the Influenza A virus
The most recent death was confirmed this Monday (27) in the region of Volta Redonda - the city has seen a "significant increase" in cases of flu syndrome

The state of Rio de Janeiro has 56 deaths caused by Influenza A since the beginning of the epidemic in the state in November. The most recent death was confirmed this Monday (27) by the Municipal Health Department of Volta Redonda, in the South Fluminense region. The city had not yet recorded any deaths from the virus. Another suspicious death is under investigation.

In a statement, the folder highlighted a "significant increase" in cases of flu syndrome in the region.

According to the Municipal Health Department of Volta Redonda, the confirmed death by Influenza A is of a 35-year-old woman, a public employee of the municipal health network. Her exam was collected on the 22nd of the month and confirmation arrived at the municipality last Saturday (25th). The case under investigation is that of a 38-year-old man.

In all, until the last 25th, the State Health Department of Rio de Janeiro had registered 36 deaths from the disease and just 394 people diagnosed with flu, which includes H1N1, H3N2, Type A not subtyped and Influenza B.

In the city of Rio de Janeiro, currently Influenza kills more than Covid-19, when it comes to comparing absolute numbers. In December, 17 people died from Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SRAG) caused by the coronavirus, while almost double, 33 deaths, were due to the flu, according to data from the Health Information System of the City of Rio de Janeiro.

In the bulletin released by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), the survey pointed out the significant presence of the influenza A virus, both in children and in the adult population, among the cases of SARS in the city of Rio de Janeiro, referring to epidemiological weeks 47 and 48 ( from the 21st to the 28th of November and from the 28th to the 4th of December).
