The Secretary of State for Health confirmed on Wednesday (11) the first death of the year caused by the H1N1 virus in Santo Ant?nio da Platina. This is a 59-year-old patient who had not been vaccinated against the flu, and who also did not use Tamiflu - antiviral, which should be started as soon as the first symptoms of the syndrome. The result was released through the latest Epidemiological Bulletin published by Sesa, which shows six other suspected cases of the disease in the municipality. According to the nurse Josiane Aparecida Teixeira, responsible for the Epidemiology Sector of the municipality, the patient was hospitalized with suspected tuberculosis, but the result was negative for the disease. His clinical condition worsened, and on June 29 he died. Exams revealed that the cause of death was H1N1, associated with other respiratory viruses. "You have to follow the protocol and get the antiviral (Tamiflu) in a timely manner to cure the virus (H1N1), which often does not happen," warns the nurse.
