I number of the Argentina NA sequences have picked up a polymorphism found in seasonal flu.

The girl died because she was not treated with Tamiflu. Even when she got worse. She did not have any link with confirmed cases or people from countries with cases. The test just got out after her death. Her death and the other death at Osasco made the gov to declare the A/H1N1 flu sustained inside Brazilian territory. A late announcement of course. The gov also said she had an underlying condition (a strange story of her have low immunity for a disease when she was 2 and denied by the family) the young man was healthy.

The girl - Marcelle Camila Laguna, 11yo, 06/30/09
Died after 6 hours at hospital and 2 days after first symptoms

The yong man, 21yo, 07/11/09
Went to hospital with symptoms twice
06/28 – looked for doctor advice at Hospital and was sent back home
07/01 – got in hospital with symptoms
07/11 – died with pneumonia

He also didn't received Tamiflu treatment.

07/16/09 - Health Minister declare sustained transmission on Brazilian territory - which means that doctor would consider any flu case suspect of being the new one and consider Tamiflu. Note - we are in the flu season here which makes more difficult to doctors make a decision, Tamiflu does not work for seasonal flu.

At least for now I can see that many deaths could be prevented by the correct treatment on time (48hs Tamiflu).

They both were treated at same hospital. Relatives were infected and monitored too. No of them died.

If she died two days after first symptoms, this case has nothing to do with Tamiflu. Most patients are NOT treated within 48 hours of symptoms, and they do just fine (in fact most patients are NEVER treated with Tamiflu, and they recover without hospitalization).

Most of the information has already been posted. The only pandemic sequence with V252M is the sequence from the first fatal case in Sao Paulo. I believe that the only sequence from a fatal case in Brazil is the Sao Paulo case. The latest update from Brazil shows that the largest number of deaths (32) are in the Sao Paulo area. The second highest number of deaths is in the region just to the south, Rio Grande de sol, with 21 deaths. Since the total for all of Brazil is 61, the fact that 53 are in Sao Paulo or the adjacent region to the south (and almost all have been reported in the past few weeks) is significant.

I'm just looking for clarification. What does this change mean, beyond being evidence that this may be a 1918 rerun?

So far the case fatality rate is 100%.
