Cases of influenza A H1N1 doubled in the last two weeks and there are currently 15 people fighting the complications of the disease in the Intensive Care Units (UTI) in the department of Santa Cruz.

This was reported by the health authorities, who also warn of an increase in patients in hospitalization rooms, which went from 31 to 35 in the last two days.

The report of the Departmental Health Service (Headquarters) shows that the positivity rate is 39%, that is, out of 100 people with respiratory symptoms who undergo the test, 39 test positive for influenza A H1N1. Those interned in the Intensive Care Units (UTI) went from 11 to 15 between the last two days.

In relation to confirmed cases, the Headquarters data show an accumulated of 817 confirmed cases, so far this year. Between Sunday and Friday of this week, 113 positives were registered, that is, almost double the previous week, when 65 positives were registered. This week the death of a 30-year-old person from this disease was reported.

The Headquarters Epidemiology manager, Carlos Hurtado, insisted on the call for people with the highest risk to get vaccinated at the authorized points, which will work this weekend. The annual dose is available for children under 12 years of age, pregnant women, and people in the third age and with underlying diseases.

Hurtado pointed out that the department is in an epidemic of medium transmission of influenza A H1N1, so he also called on the population to maintain biosecurity measures, such as hand disinfection and the use of a mask.

    Vaccination

The Headquarters enabled 16 health centers for the application of vaccines this weekend, such as influenza and Covid-19.

In each of the four health networks there will be centers that will vaccinate from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except for the San Carlos health center, which will serve until 7:00 p.m.
